"According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the number of food-stamp beneficiaries rose by 70 percent between 2007 and 2011. That growth was driven primarily by a weak economy. Most households on food stamps (75 percent) have children, seniors or disabled citizens. And most households (85 percent) have income that is below the poverty line ($23,050 for a family of four in 2012).

More concerning is that demand for food stamps is almost certainly less than what it could be. According to the Social Security Administration's Average Wage Index, the median annual wage for 2010, the most recent year for which data is available, was more than $26,300. That means half of the nation's 150,398,796 wage earners made less. That means 75 million live under, on, or just above the poverty line."

I don't have a clue how much you people on government assistance get for doing nothing. What I do know is that they use to take a huge hunk out of my hard working pay to give to you before I QUIT MY JOB IN 2011.

Now my husband is the only one working and I am not getting up early, getting my babies out in the cold, killing myself getting to work, etc., etc., so you can get my money. Yes you are still getting some of my hard working husband's pay but at least we both are not working to keep you free loaders up.

No offense, but to make your long story short = more people are getting free money than are working. A trend that is breaking America and a trend that is shortly going to leave many Americans hungry. The white people have finally gotten tired of keeping everybody else up and are steadily joining everybody else in line for all those Obama free fons.

Spoken like a true liberal. You all have trouble getting out of bed without some kind of manuel to read. LOL. The rest of us are born with common sense. I get my paycheck every month, or the lack thereof, and I know where a lot of my money is going and it ain't to my family.

I am going to have to quit working. I am not going to be able to afford to have my hair done, buy makeup or get my clothes cleaned. I can stay home all day long without makeup on, color on my hair or the necessity to have clothes cleaned. Going to the beach will just have to wait. The little I was bringing home just doesn't go far enough any more. We haven't been able to afford to eat out much in the last little while either.

Each of us as a group has at least 3 or 4 wealthy job creators to keep so if we were to quit work their accumulated would be used up and they would have to get jobs themselves which would kill most of them as they are not used to it .

Would that not also send the economy further into the hole? You call them wealthy job creators. I call them business owners. If they close shop then the people that work for them are unemployed. Sounds like a vicious cycle.

And under Obama, the average income continues to plummet and the number on welfare programs continues to grow. Of those on welfare, the vast majority have TV, cable, cell phones and a vast number of other non-essential items. I would argue that they should feel some pain and be forced to cut back, because we have redefined "poverty" and today's poverty level family is much different than that of 25 years ago.

You all don't get it... I am glad I don't have to rely on govt money but those programs you guys like to talk about were put in place to help people that actually need it. It's not Obama's fault that there are so many people lying, lazy and being free loaders. That's their fault. I cannot stand a free loader. My husband and I work every day. we budget our money and live within our means. If more people would do this instead of trying to figure out how to get something for nothing, we would see these programs working for the people they were developed for. The government should drug test people receiving services and keep a closer eye on what's going on and really figure out who needs what. You all who are very passionate about this should write letters to your state representatives and let them know what you think. If you don't hear back. Call them. You can find your state representatives phone numbers easily on the tn.gov site. Go for it. Be heard. Make a difference. I believe we all want to see people who really need help get some but if we can smoke out all the free loaders, lazy people and drug dealing folks kicked out if those programs and put to work the original plan for those programs will work like they're supposed to. For those of you who don't like to use your name I'm sure they'll read anonymous letters as well. At least you will feel like you did something.

Every time I read something you have written, I scratch my head. You have no idea how hard people who have started and run their own businesses work. Your post is just too stupid to even try and explain to you.

Two vastly different visions for America, one with less government involvement and dependence - and another vision of an America where the government is the answer to most every problem. As we see, the latter of the two visions is prevailing. We simply have to look to today's Greece, Italy and Spain to see the outcome of such a direction. All with unemployment above 25%, people rioting in the streets over government cuts and economies that have failed due to the fact that the working class is outnumbered by the non.

So you think 1% of the rich can keep 99.9% of the rest of America going? What happens when the 1% close those companies that made them rich and which also gave Americans jobs? Well, one thing would be for sure we'll all be broke and hungry together.

Me and my husband couldn't agree more. I gave my notice on Wednesday. We are going to get out half of our life savings (so Obama can't get it) and change our whole way of life. That video of that woman bragging about her free Obama phone was the last straw for us. We had already decided that if he went back in, it was time for this woman to go home.
