Well OT, I couldn't disagree more. First, the DOW is simply a statistical share price average of the 30 largest, most prominent corporations in our nation. These 30 corporations are certainly not a complete indicator of every other business's health. For example, while the DOW is performing very well, the retail industry is suffering huge losses. If one relied strictly on the DOW, one would think retail is doing fine as well. This isn't so.
Regarding what you refer to as "socialized costs", I am assuming you are strictly speaking of healthcare. What you fail to take into account are the following costs that are mandated on all business's -
Medicare - half of medicare is paid for by the employer
Social Security - half of social security is paid for by the employer
Unemployment tax
Workman's Comp Insurance
Are these socialized costs? I could add property taxes, sales and use taxes, franchise taxes, corporate taxes, liability insurance, umbrella insurance, facilities insurance, loss of revenue insurance, salary and wages, cost of goods sold, supplies, capital assets, utility bills, etc. These aren't exactly socialized costs and never will be. In my opinion, you simply determine that a business that can't afford to pay for a certain level of healthcare coverage for every employee plus help subsidize those who can't afford healthcare coverage as their attempt to social their costs. That simply is not correct. Every business does not have substantial inherent profits in which to pay for what you call "socialized costs" and their own operating costs while maintaining competitive pricing. Sure some do, but most don't. If forced to pay for "socialized costs" when they can't, they will simply reduce their staff. This is what we are seeing now.
Interest rates are propping up the stock market along with substantial profits from the DOW companies. When interest rates start to rise, this bubble will get popped - hard. On June 20th, the Fed simply hinted at easing off US Treasury bond purchases and the DOW fell 353 points.
http://money.cnn.com/2013/06/20/investing/sto...
Imagine what the DOW will do when interest rates actually do start rising and the Fed actually does abandon their US Treasury purchase strategy. This will happen, it is inevitable.
Regarding bailouts, the only thing this accomplished was earning some political points and keeping 1,000's of people from losing their job.
I think I will now drop off and go try to figure out how to socialize inventory costs.-Just Kidding-:)
I appreciate hearing your points of view even though I do not agree. Thanks for taking the time to share them.
You are focused on the DOW but, the other two indexes aren't exactly flat !
You seem to indicate that there is no connection between any of the indexes and the business climate right ? By extension, a drop of say 6,000 points in the DOW wouldn't indicate a problem with business then, right ??? I see no way to have it both ways. IF there is an anti-business climate in the USA, the markets SHOULD reflect that bias with lower values on ALL businesses not just one segment.
Are the retail trades having issues ? Yes some of them are. Retailers depend on customers with cash to spend. Wages have flatlined, employees are being asked to pay more each year for their share of healthcare costs, housing values haven't yet recovered, banks STILL aren't lending to "regular" folks, unemployment is still high, good jobs are still being outsourced, congress is focused on further cuts to programs like food stamps, which don't only benefit recipients they benefit grocers which are retailers, the numbers of Americans living under the poverty line is growing .....and on and on. ALL of the above contribute to the retail slump. I haven't read anything you have posted that indicates you want anyone to address any of those issues. On the contrary you seem to favor more of the same.

Hey, OT.
" programs like food stamps, which don't only benefit recipients they benefit programs like food stamps, which don't only benefit recipients they benefit grocers which are retailers.."

Food stamps also benefit drug dealers as the food stamps are sold to buy drugs. You don't really believe that 45.8 million Americans, 15 percent of the population, are really qualified to be on food stamps, do you OT? Your post is an indictment of this failed president.

From Bloomburg:

"Consultants hired by the Obama administration told top officials at the White House and U.S. health department as early as March that construction of the government’s health insurance website was at risk of failure, according to a document released by congressional Republicans.

McKinsey & Co. consultants recommended in a slide presentation prepared for administration officials that the government “streamline decision-making” for the site and “name a single implementation leader.” The New York-based consultants also said the administration should “lock down” technical requirements for the site by April 30. It’s not clear how many of the recommendations were followed.

Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, who obtained and released the document last night, said it shows that public promises the project was on schedule from top administration officials were incorrect.
STORY: Obamacare Troubles Inspire Leaks From a Once-Tight-Lipped White House

“Despite assurances from Secretary Sebelius, Marilyn Tavenner, and Gary Cohen that ‘all was well’ and ‘on track’ with the launch of the Affordable Care Act, we now have documents dating back to April that call into question what they told us,” Representative Tim Murphy, a Pennsylvania Republican, said in a statement.

Murphy chairs the committee’s Oversight and Investigations subcommittee, which will hold a hearing on the site’s development problems this morning."

The SS lives and thrives...

In Wisconsin, dozens of conservative groups and allies of Gov. Scott Walker are undergoing political intimidation from the left at the hands of a special prosecutor.

The orders reportedly began in the office of Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf just days before Democrat Mary Burke announced that she’d be running for governor of the state. Landgraf works for Milwaukee County Democratic District Attorney John Chisholm — who led a similar effort against Wisconsin conservatives and Gov. Walker in the past.

Imagine that. dim-libs don't get their way, try to recall the governor after he wins election, fail at that effort, and now...still trying.

From the Business Standard:

"The National Security Agency reported its own violations of surveillance rules to a US intelligence court and promised additional safety measures to prevent similar missteps over and over again, according to more than 1,000 pages of newly declassified files about the federal government's controversial program of collecting every American's phone records during the past seven years.

According to court records from 2009, after repeated assurances the NSA would obey the court's rules, it acknowledged that it had collected material improperly."

Remember the Dufus in Chief saying that he would close Gitmo? Well, you who pay federal income taxes, which excludes 47% of you right off the bat, are paying for detainees – a new word for muslim terrorists – to take up, oh things like water color painting, charcoal sketching, Arabic calligraphy, acrylic painting and pastel painting,
basic landscaping and pruning, calligraphy and Microsoft PowerPoint

This all surfaced last week in a U.S. Court of Federal Claims lawsuit stemming from a dispute over a more than $5 million contract to provide library and seminar services to detainees at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

A “life skills” seminar teaches prisoners, among other things, about computers and typing, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint at basic, intermediate and advanced levels.

A nutrition class instructs prisoners about the “principles of nutrition and scientific foundations of exercise and fitness,” records show.

No word on any bomb making or beheading courses.

In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington.
The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated.
And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it.
http://nypost.com/2013/11/18/census-faked-201...
Jack Welch was the morning guest on CNBC when these numbers were released just before the election.
He went nuts.
He called out the administration for what he thought were manipulated jobless numbers.
As it turned out, Jack was right.
No one will pay attention to this though.
Chicago-style political manipulation and lies again.
This is another example of what we have in the White House.
I can't keep up with the lies anymore.

It's the demographics, Bayless. The parasites are about 50 per cent of the electorate, now. Most don't even know what socialism is, they just want the free stuff. With the Democrats fighting tooth and nail to prevent voter ID, I doubt we can have a fair election.

"Homes raided, subpoenas issued targeting conservative groups and allies of Scott Walker"

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB1000142...

"Americans learned in the IRS political targeting scandal that government enforcement power can be used to stifle political speech. Something similar may be unfolding in Wisconsin, where a special prosecutor is targeting conservative groups that participated in the battle over Governor Scott Walker's union reforms.

In recent weeks, special prosecutor Francis Schmitz has hit dozens of conservative groups with subpoenas demanding documents related to the 2011 and 2012 campaigns to recall Governor Walker and state legislative leaders."

I'm in Washington state right now and I'm here to tell you that thousands have list coverage and no one is doing anything about it... Seattle is being hit the hardest and yes the folks have threatened to vote republican down the line if their democrat elected leaders don't do anything... Now Seattle is one of the most liberal cities in the USA, however they are not socialist... They want less rules and less regulations and they have been able to achieve that so far however this healthcare bill is anything but affordable... The bums on welfare don't worry about it because their healthcare is already paid for... Folks here in Washington are not happy! It's about time these people have opened up their eyes!

The one good thing about this Obamamess is that even the poor can afford to see the "One". Yessiree, the DNC has announced a reduction in ticket prices to see Obama make a fool of himself.

"The Democratic National Committee is reducing ticket prices 50%!

Obama is set to appear at a luncheon at the SFJAZZ Center on Nov. 25 to benefit the DNC, tickets have not been selling as expected.

"An exciting new update I would love to mention is that we have reduced the price for the general admission luncheon tickets to $500/person," Shefali Razdan Duggal, a member of the DNC's national finance committee, wrote in the email. "In addition, all current $1000 ticket holders will be upgraded to VIP (this includes premium seating near the stage and Presidential rope line access)."

So trade in those food stamps and take advantage of this incredible offer.

But Wait! If you act in the next 15 minutes, we'll not only DOUBLE this offer, but we'll throw in at no additional charge, a one year supply of healthcare insurance. That's right! don't wait for that website to get fixed, we'll give you your own Free Healthcare card. Good at any hospital or doctor in Downtown Detroit.

So pull out that maxed out credit card. We'll up your limit no matter what anyone tells you. And sign up now to see the "One".
