I'm still trying to digest the lunacy of this post. Here is a hint that probably 99.9% of the population understands that obviously you haven't quite understood - the tax on cigarettes was not purposed for helping anyone. It was initiated as a deterrent for people who smoke. Why??? The cost of smoking to our population in terms of dollars and lives is astronomical.
Has anyone ever calculated the cost of drinking on our population ? How about the price of drugs ? The cost of overeating ?? I'm a little tired of the constant attacks on tobacco by the lovers of freedom in America.
Tobacco money helped to raise me and hundreds of thousands of other East Tennesseeans, it paid for homes, farms, vehicles, appliances, food, paid for births and deaths, and it bought Christmas presents for kids. Raising tobacco is hard slavish work, but it made small farms profitable and with it's demise, the farm economy, thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in income left East Tennessee for Brazil, Argentina, and other cheap labor countries.
While American tobacco farmers had to adhere to strict guidelines on what could be applied to tobacco, the cheap labor countries have no such restrictions. God only knows what has been sprayed on imported leaf, what is used for fertilizer, how it has been stored or handled.
Smoking is harmful and expensive. So are drinking and the other overindulgences I named above. Funny how Bloomburg was criticized by conservatives for trying to limit the size of soft drink cups, yet they have no problem attacking tobacco use. Naturally, none of our conservative posters will see a bit of hypocricy in that.

OA, have you ever seen a football game where one player punched another player then the other player punched the first player back? Have you ever seen a referee penalize the punched player who was retaliating against the first player simply because that was the only punch he saw? You are that referee to a degree.
Have you ever seen a referee explain his mistake for penalizing the wrong player by stating that second player was penalized because his punch was harder than the first punch thrown? Have you ever seen a referee explain this mistake by stating the player throwing the first punch wasn't penalized because he is from the referee's hometown and the second player was from a city the referee didn't like? Of course you haven't, but that is exactly what you are doing.
Sassy ticks people off. It's that simple. Some people fight back. It doesn't matter how hard they fight back. It also has not one thing to do with politics but you are politicizing it. You're fighting a losing battle, SSS is going to initiate controversy - period. Just because you both are on the same political team doesn't justify you calling her the victim.
It seems you're intentionally missing the point. Conservatives constantly complain about the liberals' lack of class and their "barnyard language." Just as the law allows NO justification for physical assault on another person due to any words spoken to the assailant, no matter how disparaging they may be, there should not be any justification for the foul and disgusting language that MSG uses on this thread; however, the conservatives make every excuse in the world to avoid condemning bad behavior from another conservative.

Although I doubt the validity of such claims, the conservatives routinely posit that there are children reading this thread and that they're shocked (shocked, I tell you) that Sassy's language is so inappropriate for children's "ears." By then MSG is given blanket immunity from condemnation of the most vile words ever typed on a keyboard simply because she has been "justifiably angered." Would you allow a 5 year old daughter to speak like this if she gave you the excuse that she was really, really angry? Similarly, if that same 5 year old little girl read MSG's posts and expressed shock at the filth she had read, would you explain to her that it's okay since MSG was really, really angry at someone? Would you teach her that it's acceptable to use that language as long as she is really, really angry with someone?

There is another factor you're overlooking -- I have never said anything to MSG to justify her foul attacks on me. The conservatives try to imply that she ONLY speaks to Sassy using this horrible language, but I am the recipient of some of her most profane posts. My offense? I have scolded her for using such offensive language. Sassy's posts are not removed because, even though they incite anger in those who oppose her, they are not riddled with obscenities and profanity. MSG's posts are invariably deleted for this reason.

It's amusing to watch conservatives speak so self-righteously about traditional family values and morality, but then throw all of that out the window to defend obscenity and vulgarity simply because it is coming from another conservative poster. The conservatives have lost all credibility on this issue and refuse to accept it.

Oh, did you see the Fox news college poll. It had a person posing as a liberal who wanted everyone to sign a petition asking Lord Obama to sign into law a bill allowing the law enforcement to scan all of fox news' email, tweets, phones, etc. Out of 16 people, 11 signed it. Guess they did not care about their 4th amendment constitutional rights. Its scary. Most of those on this thread would do the same. You could care less. I would bet.

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press."

Good morning. I have missed you. I've been pretty busy myself.
I really don't like the use of labels but I have steadfastly refused to allow some people to make the word liberal profane. Democrats ceded that term and returned to "progressive" instead, but in my opinion there isn't anything wrong with being a liberal or being called one !
What tickles me is the belief by some on this thread that calling me a liberal is the equivalent to calling me a four lettered word.
Being from a bright red Republican County, I am known by the tea party crowd (my neighbor was a founding member of the local chapter) as a far left wing liberal....a friend who IS a far left wing liberal (and there are about half a dozen in this county !) thinks I am a staunch conservative. Proving that I am probably where most of the rest of the country is, and that labels like beauty are in the eye of the beholder !

Well said, OA. I truly believe the poster MG has serious mental issues. If she lost a child, that may have contributed to it and understandably so, but I don't believe someone would turn that vile unless it was how they were raised to begin with. I also don't see the repeated cruel attacks on Sassy's parents and children any different than a hurtful post that was made to her, so that also weakens her defense.
I have also been the recipient of some of her vile posts, and probably will be for this one as well. I was struck by the post she made to you last night because of the pure hate and rage that was palpable.

I think we have all been aggravated by posters, but it is not normal to have such serious hate and rage over an anonymous poster on a forum. I think she needs to be in therapy at the very least for anger management.

Hey, OT. Since you admitted that you posted as "The Socialist" in the past, I don't believe that you are anywhere near "where the rest of the country is." Most of the rest of the country are not socialists (they have never received more than point zero two (.02) percent of the vote in presidential elections.) Does anyone even know who ran under the Socialist banner last time... or ever? Liberals became so ashamed of that name that they changed it to progressives. I know you don't like labels but 'stealth Socialist' seems very appropriate.
