This was clearly a publicity stunt by our “Hollywood” president. It accomplishes nothing more than make it look like this oaf is for the little people.
And while you’re on the subject of who else was stupid enough to “give back”, where vive president stupid? He wasn’t on board. How about Holder and the rest of Obama’s flunkies? They are ALL rich, but they didn’t get on board.
And your knowledge of congressional salaries is faulty. Members of congress are paid $174K, not $200. The use of flawed facts explains your whacko opinions.
I said "around" Idiot...LOOK IT UP! It's not hard for anybody with a thinking brain to find it, so YOU might have some trouble!

I get so tired of "Know-nothing" brsin-dead Pure Idiots that want to argue every little thing!
For your information, some of the Long-timers make more than $200,000 a year!
JUST GOOGLE IT, FOOL, they don't ALL make the same amount!

Corrupt lobbyists and emtionally charged activists quickly smell the corrupt money and come running to corrupt legislators with corrupt causes and corrupt appropriations are thereby made with the extortion funds for every corrupt purpose except what they were supposedly intended for!
I accept the proposition that there are people who actually think this is a good idea, Many do not and would prefer a different model..maybe to include transparency, honesty and integrity?
I'm well acquainted with all the hash over this issue, historical political and theoretical, including the insurance model interpretations, so don't bore me with any of it!
The salient truth of this issue is that people are forced into this ridiculous life-long scheme while our spend-thrift government constantly rapes the pot for every obscene cause imaginable to appease political interests de jour, then threatens old people and tries to politically leverage them after raiding the cookie jar! This is beyond repugnant!
By the way, idiots are always easily surprised!
You know, you old coot, I actually agree with some of this. I don't like it either when government threatens old people and constantly wants to put their hands in the social security pot as if it's their very own piggy bank. F-that, I'm going to be old real soon too and I know it's not going to be there for me, but my granny is on it and by damn they should keep their hands off of what little she gets (I do watch over her and help supplement her monthly check). Damn you Willard, you did make ONE valid point.

You blowhards like to say you don't have time to respond, but yet you do.. Amos, I mean Willard, or whatever your many "moniker" names, you are delusional and yet interesting to read because it's like having our own private Rush your prophet and holy idol right here. Are you a pill popper too? That may explain your delusions of grandeur and you are the only one in this whole world who know the truth! It's actually fun seeing you go to crazy town. Keep up the good work Amos, I mean Willard!
You may want to consider gainful employment, it may help your anger issues. I was thinking..maybe an "accordian grinder with a monkey" career? After all, you are clown-like and apparently the job doesn't require much. I think you should be able to find a used accordian and some old french guy anywhere!

OK - I sell my Marlin 336C 30/30 to my son.

I served in the Marine Corp., have a file at the FBI as well as the TBI, have not only a HCP in Tennessee - but virtually all other states as well, a FFL Class3, and have never been convicted of a crime.

My son, served in the Marines Corp., has a HCP, and has never been convicted of a crime.

WHERE is there ANY justification that a background check be performed when I sell to my son?

The fact is - and liberals may chatter until the cows come home - there is none. All this federal expanded background check scheme is about is liberals wanting to pass a feel good law that does NOTHING to deter crime.

You are absolutely correct about the Perks and what they would add up to. I think you're alittle short on the amount of their Salary, if they aren't a Freshman, first Term, Congressman. The Longer they serve the more they make, because they have gotten more raises.
Their Staff is paid for, as well as their Family-coverage Insurance and it's better than any Policy the Ordinary Citizen can even get, at any price, so you know it's high-priced. It's been described as "State of the Art" Medical Coverage. Their travel expenss are all paid and the Perks just go on and on...and we won't even get into the Lobbyists' payments that they receive to influence their votes.
Don't forget that they made it legal to do the whole insider trading thing that if you or I did...we'd be in jail.

And, there's things like this:

Sen. Diane Feinstein’s husband Richard Blum "won" a billion dollar construction contract for California’s high-speed rail project, reports the California Political Review.

That is $35 Million of taxpayer money...per mile

Only law abiding citizens obey law. Criminals, by definition, do not.
Now, as far as background checks go - Buy a gun at a gun store, there is a check. Buy a gun at a gun show - from the sellers that have booths - there is a check. Buy a gun over the internet - if you do not have a FFL, you MUST have the gun shipped to a gun store or individual who does...AND THEN, there is a background check on you PRIOR to your getting the gun.
These are all existing laws - and NONE of them prevented the heinous crime committed in Newtown...and neither did the Massachusetts "assault weapons ban".
Why were ATF officials and Attorneys General on the carpet for not prosecuting "criminals" who tried AND FAILED because of background checks, to purchase guns at gun stores ?
Aren't they criminals by definition ?

This being Topix, I will not post HOW I know, but suffice to say, I could prove that you can buy a gun at a table, inside a gun show without a background check.
I have no experience with buying guns over the internet, so I will take your word fot that pending further investigation.

And not a Single Member of the House has given back a penny, to date, and they won't, IMO...they're too greedy.
Three Democratic Senators did and two Republican Senators did, out of a Hundred...but not a Single One of the House Of Representatives did, not one!
So, out of the entire Legislative Branch of the Federal Government...and I believe that 536 Members, including the President, only 6 People followed gave back anything...4 Democrats and 2 Republicans, all totaled!
That ought to tell the American People something about their Legislators and their Party Members and what most of them are all about!
BTW, the average salary of a Member of the House of Representatives is about $200,000 a year in salary, alone. Senators make a few more thousand than that, about $25,000 more...in salary alone, not counting all their Perks, which are many!
How much did you give back?

Why not give it to him, I mean he is your son. As a parent myself, I would never sell anything to my own Son/Daughter, if I didn't need something and my offspring needed it, I would just give it to them.

D'OH!!!!

I guess Nancy Pelosi was on to something...having never read the ObamaCare bill she stated that they would have to pass it to find out what was in it!

Her illustrious conterpart, Harry Reid:

"More funding needed to prevent ObamaCare from becoming 'train wreck'"

IMAGINE THAT!!!

A liberal democrat that wants to spend MORE taxpayer money to 'fix' a problem created when DEMOCRATS were going to 'fix' a problem.

Priceless!!!

That was a hypothetical Dunlapian - however, under the federal extended background check scheme...this is EXACTLY what would have to happen.

BTW - of course in our cases it would be grandchildren - but under EXISTING law you cannot buy a gun 'for' a minor. So, to be legal, if one is going to buy a .22 they sign that it is for them - even if the intent is to give it to a child.

Furthermore, under EXISTING law, you sign that you are buying a gun for your personal use. Therefore, it cannot be an investment - such as you buying a car, house, etc. to "flip".

This is what are called straw purchases that get libs so upset.

If so, that is against existing federal law...and in the strictest reading of the law - you are an accessory and could be charged if you know such and do not report it. That's the law.

However, you do make a great point - the laws are on the books, and by your own admission here - they don't work. So, the typical liberal solution is to....pass more laws.

The same "instrument" does not mean the same outcome, nor does it assume the same manner of execution or management! I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable to asses any such sytem in China, but the American SS joke is clearly played upon the American people!

I swear some of you People, obviously, have no more idea of how your Federal Gov't. works than you know how to make a Rocket fly into Outer Space! It's astounding!
What the hell does that have to do with giving back 5%? Only elected officials should do it?

And it wasn't even Obama's idea. Chuck Hagel and Ashton Carter, unelected officials, were the first.

It was a publicity stunt, pure and simple. They work on simple minded, uninformed people.
