Have I missed something? Has congress passed a Civil Rights Act for Stupid People while I was eating?

I thought maybe that's what this is about. You know, redistribution of intelligence or something!

As I see it, in order for such an initiative to be sucessful the government would have to quantify, then reconcile intellectual imbalances, at least in the collective sense and later the individual context.

By my estimation, that would mean our government would need to find at least three thousand liberals per each conservative and pay them minimum wage to bother people on Topix. But it would be "FAIR," right?

I see, Willard's only a Christian during daylight hours. Nice.

Reality TV is less obscene than conservative banter after dark on this thread. Enjoy.

You long for pacifistic Christians who can be tormented away from posting on Topix. Though this idea along with the efforts of your stupid friends has worked many times, this isn't me, nor shall it ever be! Your hatred for me is great, perhaps greater than I realized. To witness the ability to vent this level of hate and abuse towards others, punishing me vicariously with no compunction, surprises even me! Consider it duly noted!

You and I are both sinners, twenty four hours a day. I do wish to make it clear that I am not a socialist, marxist, or other such deceived individual seeking the detruction and overthrow of our governmnet. I am not a God hater - the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob; the God of the Holy Bible; the Father of the living, resurrected son of God himself (Jesus); Other than that, we have essentially nothing in common!

For the record, under LBJ, the money was moved into the General Fund and the government has been taking money from the Social Security Trust Fund and spending it as general revenue, leaving the trust fund with government IOUs.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, Social Security was $10 billion in the red in 2010 and $9 billion in 2011. The CBO believes that Social Security may run positive for a couple of years until 2016, when the program will really start losing money.
There are now so many T-bills in the Trust Fund that when the baby boomers begin to retire, the demand for funds to make Social Security payments to them will balloon, and one of two things will happen: Americans will be taxed twice for the same benefits, or the benefits will be cut.
Either way, we have a serious problem. If the benefits are cut, itís unlikely that the retirees who are currently receiving benefits will have them reduced, but future retirees, such as the baby boomers, will receive less than their parents. Another possibility might be to raise the retirement age to 69 or 70.
What all that means is that Social Security is now ahead of schedule on losing money and rapidly going bankrupt. Social Security is not almost broke, not just at risk of going broke, not close to being broke, it is literally broke.
Hello Nuh. There seems to be a lot of opinions regarding SS on here lately. It really isn't very complicated, at least in my opinion, if you understand how it works. It is nothing more than a retirement plan not unlike a typical annuity. The only differences are the government is the administrator instead of an insurance or investment company and if you earn wages, you have to use it. Your employer must match the funds an employee pays into it as well. Most people on here don't realize this. I will say this again, a worker's employer helps fund his/her retirement benefits regarding SS. Don't believe me, look up what IRS Form 941 is. The annuity paid out to a SS retiree is capped, therefore the payments required to pay into it are capped. In short, you get out of it what you pay into it, just like any other retirement plan. Raising taxes on anyone will not affect SS one bit. If you place the limit of SS taxes higher on the wealthy, they will simply get more benefits when they do retire if SS follows what every other retirement plan does. I realize Sassy will not agree with this, but these are the facts. SS is not affected by our progressive tax system. Employees are already receiving more than they paid in due to the employer matching what they paid in. I'm sure some liberals will respond by saying the employers should pay more, but SS is just one of several taxes an employer pays for the use of labor. Tax too much, the labor force gets reduced and businesses go belly up or move manufacturing off-shore. Sort of what we are seeing now.

The funds submitted to the government by an employer are invested in Federal Government bonds, i.e. US Treasury bonds. Over time, when these bonds mature, the proceeds are used to pay benefits to those retiring at that time. Those still paying into the system are having their money invested in more US Govt Securities. So technically, no one is touching anyone's SS investment. However, the funds the US Government receives on these sale of bonds is subject to mismanagement via the Federal Government. These funds are what the Federal Government can touch. However, they are legally required to pay them back via the policies on issuing Securities. The only two things jeopardizing anyone's investment in the SS system are if at a given time, the funds going out to retirees exceeds the amount coming in from employees and bankrupts the system. The other risk is if the Federal Government can't pay back the interest and maturity value of the bonds they issued. The only thing that would keep our government from doing this is the federal debt.
