All religions are cults! We only use the term when talking about a faith not aligned with our own like it makes theirs bad and yours good. Look up the definition!!!

Presently, the answer is - Yes, they are a cult. They are currently labeled a cult by some Protestant groups. However, if a JW is on the ballot as the republican candidate for president in four years, JW will be removed from the list of cults, and at that time the answer will be - No, they are not a cult.
JWs would never run for office. They have no faith in human governments. Furthermore, in their eyes participating in human government means they don't have faith in Jesus's government.

The JWs are programmed to believe that Earthly concerns and responsibilities are unimportant and take a back seat to "their ministry", conducting Bible studies and attending meetings. I studied with them for a while and they live disordered dysfunctional lives.

If you think that Jehovah's witnesses are a cult your wrong the only way you become a Jehovah's witness is by getting baptised which I haven't done because its hard and if you leave they just leave they don't like beg for you to stay or something but they do care.
It's hard to get baptized as a JW cuz they want you to quit smoking, drinking, using drugs and having sex FIRST. They have a misguided understanding about a scripture that says anyone who participates in these activities will never see heaven. That's stupid. Jesus baptized people right on the spot, not after they completed some 12 step program.

Theres a woman at work that is JW and she is friendly as can be. She greets you with a smile and will show affection when it calls for it. She laughs cuts up and dresses very nice. So it confuses me when people say they don't associate with non Jw's?
JWs generally don't associate with non JWs. They believe we're a bad influence on them, based on a scripture "Bad associations spoil useful habits".

My father was conned into this cult about 20 years ago. He has been one of the ones knocking on doors. It is a cult. They have brainwashed him into thinking that only a certain number of people are going to the "New Kingdom". As a child, I was forced (by him) to attend his "church" (I am a Christian). Wow, what a weird place to be. They publish their own bible, hymnal, etc and it is conveniently for sale in the church. I hated it there. He used to try to "preach" to us as kids but then we started giving it right back to him. Try being a kid who always celebrated holidays with Daddy and then one day he won't even tell you happy birthday.
I once had a JW knock on my door. He was very pushy and I was very polite and told him I wasn't interested. He started yelling a bunch of stuff and stuck his foot in the door and tried to push his way in. Wrong idea! He won't be back!:) Just start preaching back; they will leave.
I had something like that happen to me. This older lady JW in a car tried to talk to me and give me her magazines. I told her I was in a hurry, on my way to work. She totally blasted me with some stuff and sped away. Later I saw two more JWs in the store parking lot nearby and I cussed them out! About what the First lady had done! I never had anymore trouble out of them!

Pay attention to context. The word "Cult" has a certain meaning in the dictionary, and another meaning in layman terms.

I find it a bit ridiculous how everybody is making out Jehovah Witnesses to be narrow minded, selfish jerks. Jehovah witnesses is a religion just like any other, and of course there are going to be some people who are very focused in their religion and for that reason, would rather just be around family and close friends. But there are many people from other religions that are worse, the jehovah witnesses that I have met are kind and lovely people, and respect other people beliefs, unlike many people on this forum.

ok i am not a Jehovah Witness, but i know people that are, they are not judgemental at all!!! yea, they believe alot differently then what some other christians believe, but thats one thing they got on other christians, they don't judge.
Thats pretty cool to me, i know they don't celebrate any holiday that i am aware of, becuz they don't believe in supporting something that is man made and all about taking money. They don't vote cuz they don't believe one man can run the country, they don't support to the war, they bcuz they don't believe "Jehovah" wants to harm other humans in any way wether its defense or not.
So actually if u think about it. They are more human then any other religion, they do care about mankind as a whole!!! i think its pretty amazing.
P.S. Also? a true Jehovah Witness will not respond to this trash.
I was raised Jehovah's Witness and I decided to get baptized at 11 years old to make my mother happy, and they are now punishing me for a decison that I made out of fear. My whole family cut me off bc I dont believe what they believe. They say they want to help mankind but they are full of shit they are just looking for more ppl to brain wash and pay their way, and if you dont believe what they do you are not worth their time. Just cause they dont casuse physical harm they sure use mental abuse to keep ppl in their flawk, I would look up the youtube video on their religion before saying what great ppl they are.

I am sorry that you have to go through that mess Stephanie. I understand exactly where you are coming from. I have found 1 thing that I can do to show JW members that their way is NOT the ONLY way to salvation and may not be the correct way at all. That is to simply follow Christ in every way you possibly can. Show them that your understanding of scripture works and is helping you lead a BETTER life than when you were a part of their community. If we shun the JW and to refuse to listen to them, we are acting just as they do. Also, that will only lead to the same treatment directed back to you.

Being turned away by your family because of their "church family" has to be one of the most hurtful and confusing things one could go through.

Cult! So are seventh day adventists! jehovahs deny Jesus is the true Messiah while adventists are busy praising ellen white and trying to convince the world they are worshipping on the wrong day. Don't accept their literature - that's their main goal along with getting inside your house. Don't try to minister to them because they have been schooled on what points you will argue and have prepared their rebuttal accordingly. Avoid all contact with these nutjobs.
I just thought you should know, that I study religion, and Christianity, along with JW follows the most cult like behavior in comparison to all, even over Laveyanism.....Just sayin....

There is no cult behavior displayed in true Christianity. Christianity is something someone must come to on their own ultimately, so how is that in any way, shape, or form a cult-like quality? It is up to every individual to accept the sacrifice of Christ. It is up to every individual to stay in the footsteps of Christ. The Bible teaches that you merely have to accept Christ to become a Christian. The 10 commandments were written for a single person, not a group.

I suggest you study more before you come here to blaspheme my way of life.
