Next time you look in the mirror you might want to ask for forgiveness cause I am betting you are no angel. What, did you just "love" LNR? Maybe one of his lady followers? That little group of women would have died for him. A sick kind of worship for that man.

As for LNR yes it was the SG people. You had some parents of lady rebel basketball players who didn't like his in your face coaching and hands on approach. They thought it was to rough and complained to Parkins who in turn got rid of him not Bowman. Those girls were born and raised south of the river and their the ones who forced the action. Once again the truth speaker has spoken.
Wrong again! It was Cindy Bowman reciting for those girls what to put down in those letters to get rid of LNR. She succeeded in tearing down the SGHS athletic programs. Why? Misery loves company!!!

i agree with good enough, he only recognizes certain players because of name, school or whose daddy follows him around and up his a..no matter how many mistakes those players make, they will continue 2 play because its not about winning.the time has come for the community to speak up and get something done!!

I played for Shawn Jones. He is a total loser. However he thinks he is the best coach ever. He is also Cindy's pet so she is not going to get rid off him.

I have no patience with people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. For some people the outcome -if bad- is always somebody elses fault. For those who keep bringing Coach Ricker up - shame on you. Not everybody loved him and every time you bring his name into it -you are just opening the door for bad comments about the deceased. He coached my daughter and I only wish I had had the guts to speak up -then maybe he could have changed his ways. Letting someone continually get by with bad behavior leads to the road of destruction - every time.

Let's be honest here folks.......SG does not have an athlete in ANY sport that is going to make his/her living playing a sport. Most likely no team in Greene Co does. Kids go to school to receive an education, not to play sports. If most of you that are complaining would get as involved in your child's education as you do in their sports teams they would be better off in the long run.
I love sports as much as the average person, m son is an athlete and a very accomplished one at that but you must keep things in perspective. I wish SG and all of the schools in Greene Co the best of luck in academic and sports.

Yes, education should be king. And, no we are not living with a lot of professional athletes, but sports does have its place, especially in a state like ours where the obesity rate is over the top.
I have a child that plays sports at SG. He has heard through the grapevine that a number of football players are talking about moving to other high schools next year and/or quitting the team. The few boys that do put their hearts into practice and have been on this team for a year or two are discouraged not only with some of the coaching decisions, but with the lack of effort shown by their fellow team members. If you have been at a game it is obvious that a few of the boys are doing the job, while the majority of them seem afraid to run the field, make a tackle or take a hit. I am not per se a sports fan, but I have seen it first hand and there is no way coaches and players haven't seen it when they watch film. It is a real shame because their losses this year are not the crushing defeats and hopeless games we saw last year.
I think these players need a good shot of motivation, something they don't seem to be getting right now for some reason.

Hey! You have dared to use logic, reason, and the truth here. lol

These SG sports threads always end up the same, let's dig up ole Larry and cruise down memory lane, ad nauseam.

I understand your point that the kids probably won't be playing in the NFL for a living and I'm sure their parents know as well. SGHS does do a very good job educating our kids in the classroom, we would just like to have a football coach that can lead & teach them as well. I don't think that a little success on the football field is too much to ask for. I'm not meaning state championships just learning that hard work, dedication & teamwork will pay off in the end. Jones has taken something that the kids & the community used to be very proud to be a part of and made a complete mockery of it. Every community takes pride in their schools sports teams and wants to see some level of success for them. I may be a Rebel but I also like to see the other local teams do well & I'm very happy to see when a local kid gets a scholarship in the sport they love to continue their education & lessen the financial burden on their parents. Jones also will do nothing to help get scholarships for his players unless its one of his favorites. He does tell them none of them are good enough to play in college! The Rebel parents & fans are sick of his behavior & sick of him bringing down kids who do try & want to succeed & we feel they deserve better.

I agree with your post. Anyone that has ever played sports knows that it is more fun to win than to lose. Hopefully SG can turn things around and get a win tomorrow night.

I'm am soooo ashamed of the threads that always get started about South Greene sports. To be more specific, South Greene football, baseball and basketball sports threads. 99.9% is always about football and basketball. Well guess who coached those sports. Didn't take long did it. Poor Coach Larry Ricker, may he try to rest in peace. This small pitiful clan of people who keep bringing up his name in an effort to destroy other coaches is disgusting and WRONG! Even worse is their claim of how much they loved him. If you truly loved and cared about this man you would let him rest in peace. He was not God and he did make a bunch of mistakes just like we all do. Shawn Jones is the coach of football right now and there is nothing you can do about it. If this pitiful clan were to give him encouragement the sky would probably fall. Many have written about the unfair practices of coaching at South Greene which at the top of the list is playing generations of children who continue to be children of the pitiful clan. That is probably more your problem than anything. So by all means be assured that the pitiful clan will continue to write their words of how to save South Greene sport and never realize that THEY are a HUGE part of the problem. Them and their offspring that is.

I am old school. I believe in hard work and discipline. Lets be honest about a couple of things. First off, Cindy Bowman told those girls EXACTLY what to write in those letters. EVERYONE knows that. Cindy wanted rid of LNR. Check. Mission accomplished. She wanted Shaun Jones in there so she could control him. And she does. Check. Mission accomplished. Thats why he is still there. We have been fighting this battle since my son was there 6 years ago. Its a shame that us parents had to sit in the stands and listen to Claiborne coaches talk about what an idiot Jones was because he had the most offensive players in the county but only wanted to use one. I'm not gonna say any names but there were two other sets of parents that heard this conversation. At that point I realized that Jones was only gonna play the name, not the talent. I tried my best to convince my son to change schools. I would have moved. He would never have made it any further than college but he loved the game of football. If that would have kept him motivated and focused on grades in order to play in college then he should have been able to pursue it. Its not about going further in life. Its about doing what you love AND going to school to do it. But the main thing was, they had to keep up the grades in order to play. If that's not concentrating on academics, then I sure don't know what is. Most of these kids know that high school is probably the last years of playing a game they love. Why shouldn't they expect a coach that knows how to coach the game? That's not asking the impossible. There ARE coaches out there that do believe kids should be able to play based solely on their ability, not their parents name or lack thereof. But this will not happen at SGHS until you have a decent principal that cares about all aspects of high school. That includes academics, sports, band, and all the other elements of high school. Its up to the parents to take affirmitive action here. Thank goodness I am done.dealing with this issue!!!

I feel so sorry for your son. You're just another parent who thinks/thought their child was pro football material. Such idiots. The problem is the stressed out parents who stress out their children. Come on little George you are so good college football will be a shoe in. The kids are the losers in this tug-a-war. Sit in the stands this week and watch the parents. It does not take long to see why the children are like they are. Cindy Bowman is no picnic but you can't blame her for everything. You stress your kid out and the man upstairs knows it.

I never for one second thought my kid was pro football material. Are you stupid or just can't comprehend what you read? I stressed the part about making good grades to play in COLLEGE. If a kids has any talent at all, there are ALOT of programs they can play in college football. You are a flipping joke. My kid was the least stressed kids on the gave of the earth and yep the good lord knows it. Put down whatever it is you are smoking and drinking. You need help!
