So it's official. Derek Dooley is out. Where do you see the program going from here?

Derek Dooley has been fired as the head coach of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. The school is scheduled to make the formal announcement in a 2:00 PM press conference.

Offensive coordinator Jim Chaney will coach the Vols in their final regular season game against Kentucky on Saturday.

Dooley, in his third season as head football coach, saw his team lose to Vanderbilt last night, ensuring a third straight losing season - something that hasn't happened since 1908-1911. The Vols are 4-7 overall and winless at 0-7 in SEC play for the first time in school history. Dooley is 15-21 overall and 4-19 in the SEC as head coach since he was hired to replace Lane Kiffin after the 2009 season. Last year, the Vols lost to Kentucky for the first time in 26 years. Last night's loss to Vanderbilt was the first in Nashville since 1982. Dooley also finished 0-15 against ranked opponents.

We'll have more details as they are released and develop throughout the day.

Don't think we'll get Gruden. Not to sure he's a good fit anyway. Big difference in pro and college. Whoever we get, things couldn't get any worse. I think Dooley is a great guy and would be a great athletic director. I wish him and his family the best, but it's time UT moves on. Who knows, good chance Kiffen will get fired, could it be him?

There is a lot wrong with that program. But there is a lot of positives too. IF bray, hunter, and Patterson stay they will have a dynamic offense. Last night aside, they put up some points his year against some good teams. The defense is in disarray. Are they a 3-4 or a 4-3? If they dump sunsari and go back to the 4-3 they will have lost a year that could have been used to get better. Special teams is shaky, minus the return game which is in pretty good hands with Patterson. The next coach has some talent to work with but he has to be willing to adapt to the talent. Something sunsari didn't do this year.

I noticed Jimbo Fisher's name has been mentioned by some in the media but I doubt very seriously he'd leave Florida State.

I have heard petrino, gruden, Charlie strong, fulmer, and mahlzan. Not sure about the spelling of the last one. I think Charlie Strong is the best of the bunch. If they want to get the defense in order, he is the man. All the others are offensive guys. That is not the weakness.

I agree, Charlie Strong would make a good coach as well as Bobby Petrino. Petrino was doing a fine job with Arkansas until his little "indiscretion". Gruden, hmmmmm, there's the "name" but would he be a good fit for Tennessee football? Derek made out okay though it appears, five million bucks and no telling what else in the pot.(-:

I hear that the job was offered to Steve Spurrier two weeks ago. He will accept the job after their bowl game.

I wouldn't of thought it, but the more I read sounds like Gruden is actually considering this job. His wife is an ex UT cheerleader and he was a grad assistant here. They say he'll be able to recruit on the same level as Saban. If so, bring him on.

I can see his first year or two having great recruiting classes. After that it is going to be up to the product on the field. Dooley's classes weren't terrible but it didn't translate on the field.

I agree, he'd be an outstanding choice. Has his name been mentioned as "in the running"?

I also agree. Besides doing a great job coaching, he seems like a class act.

His brother is a hell of a defensive coordinator.
