I think so. He may not deserve all of the credit but he sure as heck deserves alot for that. What's on your resume?
Yeah & South Greene won those State Championships playing in their own division & didn't have to drop down like some schools did to make it to Murfreesboro. So our gold ball is for real!

<quoted text>You forget Chris is not the head coach and why do you think he is not the head coach? I don't mean to create a coaches' controversy, all three coaches are excellent but the atmosphere and restraint they are coaching in is not good. Crucial ballgames like the semifinal game last year in the state tournament and the Elizabethton and Greeneville games this week are won by extremely hard work and severe discipline. Coaches often intimidate timid players so they are more afraid of the coaches than they are the intensity of the situation. This is no longer a factor at SGHS. I guess the question that needs to be asked about the Lady Rebel team is do they want to be pampered and be mediocre or do they want to be ABUSED a little and become what they once were. Maybe some good cussing and a switch and a little belt might be good for this team but I'm way out of line now.
I'm sorry, but you sound like a down year is the end of the world! Basketball is a game. However, some folks think it is the only important things in life. I think all of these posts are ridiculous.

Why does people keep saying its a down year? SG girls team are in the same exact place in their conference as last year. Sg was tied for 2cd with CD and GHS was 1st. Right now Cd is 1st and Sg and Ghs is tied for 2cd..SAME AS LAST YEAR

Sorry... I guess I was just reading all of these posts and came to the conclusion that the world was coming to an end.:) My point is that some folks need to realize that basketball isn't the only thing in the world. I personally don't care if the team is in first or last place as long as those girls are getting a good academic education and are not being trashed on a site as stupid as this one.

I do agree with you that this has gone beyond good judgement. What most people dont realize is that being a lady rebel is a blessing and a curse at the same time. You are judged for the rest of your life by people thinking that you think you are better than everyone else. You are judged by people saying that you know it all. The truth is that none of us think we are better than anybody. Coach Ricker made sure we didnt think or act that way. Fans saw the way he got on us but they never saw the side of the gentle father figure. I would just ask to leave the girls and their coaches alone. Its a hard enough life without adding this crap to it.

You're right life is hard enough without adding such crap to it. I just think too much emphasis is put on sports, especially at South Greene on girls basketball. Don't get me wrong, I love attending games on occasion. However, I truly care more today about increasing the academic standards at the school... raising the students' ACT scores and providing them with more challenging courses. Basketball can be a great pasttime that teaches many great things such as discipline and teamwork, but it's not going to put food on your table after high school. There are a lot of bright students at South Greene who are non-athletes and they deserve to have some emphasis put on them for a change.

You are right that basketball doesnt put the food on the table but it was a means to get it on there for me. If I had not gotten a scholarship then I wouldnt have been able to go to college because my family wasnt able to afford it. This bashing of the team and coaches is nothing new. It went on there when I played in the early 90s and we did win the state. So just keep your heads up girls.

What has gone on this year cannot be repeated. By trying to advance one particular freshmen other better players have lost a year of play time and THAT WAS THEIR PLAN!! The problem is that they can't afford to let anyone take her place for long [being any of the other freshmen, sophomores or the lone senior who has waited 3 years to finally get a chance --I don't know how her parents haven't blowed yet--because if they let others play for any length of time like earlier in the year, we all did see earlier in the year right, that's why folks are fighting mad. You hav fooled noone -- read our lips-- notone. I didn't care for this guy at NC. He sure had his one or two special girls there to. Ricker and Cooper are not inocent in this year's stuff either. Ms Bowman needs to put her thinking cap on and find SG a coaching staff we can be proud of. You need to start now and take your time, the kids deserve so much better.

You are a classless jerk and a coward. I was around him my entire life and I assure you he was not any of your sorry description. Put your name on here COWARD and we'll critique you. You are a sad excuse for a human being!
listen, i knew him all of my life too. he was a sorry excuse for a man. maybe not to the people who "mattered" but he had an ego complex and he treated other people like they were scum beneath his feet so don't tell me not to talk about him when i personally dealt with him. i don't care what you think, or what anyone else thinks. i know how he treated me and i know how i saw him treat other people. he was a jerk. plain and simple

i'm not denying he achieved all of that. i know he did but he was an a**hole during the process which in my book makes all of those achievements mean absolutely nothing. he just was not a nice guy. i don't care if he won the fricken nobel peace prize. he was a jerk and that overshadows all the awards he received

And it really doesn't matter what you think about him either. I'm sure he didn't care, but it is hurtful for people who loved him because they knew the real person. I just think it takes a very sad excuse for a human being to say such awful things about someone who is deceased. That speaks volumes about you. Why don't you try to be the bigger person then and keep your opinions to yourself and let it go. Maybe that's why he treated you poorly if in fact he did. Maybe he didn't care for your character and lack of judgement because you obviously don't have any. Just sayin'

Just curious how you would feel if someone got on here and bashed your mother or father, sibling or loved one? Would it bother you in the least? I am just saying be a grown up and move on. There is no reason for you to air it now. Show some class. You are completely entitled to your opinion, but why would you keep on talking trash about someone who is not even the basis for this forum? You must have some real issues if you have kept this kind of hatred for someone all of these years. Good luck with dealing with that. You sound pretty miserable.

right because a four year old is supposed to have impeccable character. and as for me keeping my opinions to myself umm....no. see that's what's so great about this country. if someone treats you like you are scum, you can say that they treated you like scum. and as for his family, if they know without a doubt that he wasn't a bad person, they will just write me off because they feel they actually knew him. and as for you, don't jump all over people when they voice an opinion. it makes you look like an inconsiderate, nazi douche. just sayin'

Maybe it is time for whole new leadership at SGHS, not just the principal, but the entire coaching staff as well. People get too settled in and start to think they own the school. Bowman doesn't seem to listen to the parents like she once did. Our children, remember that, these are our children. If we say there is a problem, then that is what we mean, there is a problem. You are hearing our complaints and concerns, now it is your turn to act.

Wonder why people think that about a few of you OLR's? Could it be that they get on here and trash, Bowman, any coach that's not a R, and anyone else that had to do the right thing by SG? Or that they name minor ball players by name, and critique ballgames for us? Or that look down their noses at parents that don't allow their kids to be abused by coaches? Or make fun of kids and their parents for speaking up? I can assure you that anyone reading your posts, or hearing you at games, can easily get that impression. Somehow you've lost what he taught you about true pride and humility. Because that's hasn't been, and isn't the impression many people have about the few negative vocal players of that time. You've helped tear this school apart. These young girls on the current bb team feel the same way, "it's a hard enough life without all your crap added to it."
