Do you want more room as found in the Accord or the better gas mileage from the civic? That's the way I'd look at it.

I'd choose the Accord any day. In the older models there wasn't a great difference in gas mileage, and the Accord generally had more safety features and were built better.

I have a civic, the accord is a little bigger. Go for the accord, especially if you have a kid. I have talked to other people that have a civic, don't expect to go in bad weather in one.

Honda Accord hands down. It has more safety features as well as more room so you don't feel like your riding in a cracker box. They last longer than a Civic if you do routine maintenance on them.Mine has over 400,000 miles and still runs great.
