Probably not. He has to win in court to have any standing to file. If a judge finds him guilty, then he won't have a chance at Sueing. Plus, not many attorneys here do this stuff, and it has to be filed in federal court to have a chance. Noone is greeneville is capable of handling this lawsuit because it such a specific niche...if done right. There are 2 attorneys in Johnson city, 1 in Kingsport, and a handful in Knoxville that do civil rights stuff and do it well. A few have attempted here in greeneville and lost their arse. So I hope for mr overholts sake...he has went out of town for representation . When is his court date?
Broyles got a letter from the state Open Meetings people. The story is in the Sun today. They said that they received 59 complaints about this shady meeting. They also said that a suit can be filed against Broyles and the IDB for violating the Open Meeting Law.

Good on you, 59 people in Greene County!

It is just a damn shame that ONLY 59 people in our county actually give a crap.

That is 58 more than I expected. Still, 59 out of 60,000 people? That is just pathetic!

What kind of communist country is this to arrest and elder man of 76 yrs and a Vet. for asking the speakers to speak a little louder so he could hear them? If this is what we are to treat our Vet. men and women like, for going to war for this country then this country is in the wrong direction. We have truly made it to communist.
As a Vet. I do not want anyone to know I am anymore.( we Vet.'s have served in places that our hearing has been lost from shell shock/motors running on air planes for long periods of time and other noise disabilities.) But this kind of Law Enforcement Officers are truly not of the true American and should be removed from office. We pay for them to Protect and Serve and this is truly not Protecting and Serving. This is the new SS American Nazi Communist Police.
It should be demanded by the Citizens of Greenville, TN that this Vet. and Gentleman be completely cleared of any charge and a full apology from the Police Department for such inappropriate actions.
"You had just better shut it or you will get some Concrete Time too!
Don't question your betters again. "
Well well, I have to let you know now that I am not afraid of being threatened, It's not my first's time to be threatened either. But then I am a retired Officer of the Law and I know when I see or hear of such
bully to the public tactic's. I still say that you are acting like the SS Nazi State Police. This is totally uncalled for and that you should clear this Vet. of all charges and the Mayor should have to make and Public apology to this man. See I don't car what you think of me but you are wrong for your actions and you know it too. Waiting for your concrete time you say I need. I tell you this I a not afraid of you at all.
Wow. I truly doubt you ever served or protected. True vets don't have to ask for special consideration for breaking the law. See they fought for the freedom and laws of this great land. You did not protect as a law officer cause you assume guilt of the PD before gathering all facts.
Your post smells of a liberalist who is stirring the pot. You say you don't care but you do. If you were police I bet you never arrested a vet. Your post is classless and pAThetic. A reach by the liberal group thAt can't win the save the Nolachuckey campaign. Just reading thru your post and smelling crap. Time to go back to work now Roy. I work for a living. You retired yet? I know who u are. Lol.

To our good neighbors in Greeneville,

It should be noted that the Mayor has "exceeded his legal authority" by unlawfully denying the public the right to hear the deliberations of the board. Secondarily, he "technically" orchestrated the false arrest and kidnapping of Mr. Overholt. Given these egregious violations of the Law, your Mayor has pierced any veil of immunity or protection the law might otherwise afford him in the office of Mayor.

As such, the people of your fair city should insist that this man retain lawyers and other legal counsel at his own out-of-pocket expense. If he were to dip into the public treasury in order to hire an attorney to defend his actions, this would be further official misconduct and misuse of public funds. It would be wise to contact the Office of Comptroller of the Treasury as well as the Attorney General and/or representative of your local Grand Jury should he step over this line. As for Mr. Overholt...he absolutely has a civil rights case...not only against the Mayor, but also with the City police/Sheriffs department and each officer in the individual capacity for their participation in removing him and arresting him.

Personally, I hope he sues their ass off and winds up taking the Mayors house for such arrogance, obstinate, and pompous behavior. Your Mayor is a disgrace to your city and all public office holders. Get rid of his ass and take back your government so that there can be a little bit of decency, respect, and common sense in your elected officials.

Good Luck!!!
