Comcare does have spend downs. It is the state that says how much $$ a client can have in their account, so yes, anything over that and I believe both the client & Comcare would lose out. The above statement about using a clients $$ to give furniture to another house.....it could have been that the clients family chose to do that. The families do know about the spend downs and why it happens. The clients there get to go on outings to Wal-Mart & out to eat weekly IF they have $$. Yes, some clients have more $$ than others, but that is not Comcare's fault. Best as I can remember, the level of care a client needs (due to meds, behaviors & care) is what is used to base how much $$ is given to Comcare for them housing them. Also, clients make $$@ the day program by working. Then you have families that give $$ to their person. Also, there are some clients who have to actually pay for their meds. Some do not have TN Care or insurance that pays for all their meds. One of my favorite ladies there was on a med that she had to pay roughly $300 a month for. OUT OF HER OWN MONEY! So, yes, staff do go spend the clients $$, sometimes he/she can go with the staff & decide what to get, other times it is management & staff imput on what he/she needs or his/her house needs. As for clients not having the clothes they need.....weird because their clothes use to be changed out twice a yr for the different season coming up...gone thru, donate what don't fit now & buy new clothes to take the place of those.
Not too sure about why someone had to bring oatmeal in to the house, because grocery shopping use to be done weekly. Using a menu made by a nutritionist for the state of TN, not just what they wanted to buy. Maybe the house person who was to go shopping didn't schedule it correctly or was going that day, of course I don't know. I just know what happened a few yrs ago. ALL the clients use to be on certain diets and the menu's were made according to those diets.(which were determined by their dr's, not management.)
Like BMH, I dislike some of Comcares management, but there are some things that are out of the managemtns control. State is ALWAYS changing things....how papers are filled out, bills are paid, payroll is done, etc. I wonder how many other agencies in town have the disaster plans that Comcare has? These are done twice a year, unannounced. The staff are trained on what this is and why it is done and are expected to do the drill correctly and quickly when announced to do so. Each house has a "disaster food/clothing supply" that is located inside the house. This to is kept current as far as food dates, season for clothes & to see that batteries work etc. There are fire drills done once a month for each house....staff and clients participate. There are house inspections done monthly and grades given. Very strict guidelines with these also. ALL the clients are kept up with by medical staff @ Comcare as far as their physicals, including dental and eye care. Many have to be taken out of Greeneville for this care. Dr visits are routine for the clients also.
OK......I will shut up now :) I just wanted to say that although there are negatives about this business, there are positives too. I have friends who work at GCS & Omni....in the past they have been heard to say how they (staff) are going to go get steaks/chicken to grill out while clients eat a tv dinner. The staff talk about how they don't come to work to clean house/cook for people....they just sit on their butt and watch tv & get pd. Many, many times I have replied that "you would not work for me with that attitude. You are pd to care for the client" So, I don't know if these other companies have the positives that Comcare has or not...if not, it is a shame.

Renee Parman is a snooty snoot who thinks she is better than everyone else. Her voice is like fingernails across a chalk board. When she speaks I want to plug my ears and say LA LA LA LA!!!!

Now they want all staff to sign a piece of paper giving them permission to pull money out of our bank account if they make a mistake and overpay us...... Now of course they say they will contact us first to let us know..... Why can't they just deduct from next check? Most staff are refusing to sign the paper and someone said they are saying if we don't they will hold our check! If that's the case I know there will be a few ppl quitting!

The clients there are great but the management is awful and has no loyalty to their employees. Dr. Johnson the former director ran a good place but since he has left it fell apart. I was there when they began firing employees of 10 or more years for bs reasons such as management decision. You would think after that many years of service they would be decent enough to give a reason. If you notice they are alwasys hiring so figure it out.

That's your money. They aren't allowed to keep it from you. And, if they attempt to, I'd advise you to consult a lawyer.

Comcare is the worse employer I've ever had the displeasure of working for. I also worked there for several years. I kept working there because of the clients. And even with perfect attendance (to work, training and staff meetings), they still fired me for no known reason. At the time I was hurt that they treated me that way. But within a week or two I realized that they did me a favor firing me, because I would have stayed forever. The treatment staff receives there is terrible. I would say to anyone that the clients are taken good care of, but the support staff are not. Management feels like they can treat anybody anyway they want, because there will always be someone ready to take the job (I know this because a supervisor told me so). I to would say: STAY AWAY FROM COMCARE!

Comcare sucks; they don't treat you fair and sure don't care about you as a staff member. They lie to their staff. They said we couldn't get a raise cuz of beget cuts, but all the management got new cars and they purchased that big place on penn ave. They prove every week that they don't care about us. If I'm sick they threaten to fire me if I don't work. They don't care if your family member is in the hospital, you miss work - you lose your job. I haven been working for them for a few years. I am looking for another job, I am not staying cuz I deserve to be treated like a valued human instead of s**t.

Wow! Sounds like a lot of dis-satisfaction with Comcare. I have heard some horror stories about Comcare management/supervision. A permanent help wanted ad is an indication of a high employee turn-over rate.
I wonder how the "executive director" is compensated.
It would be interesting to know if she is salaried or is paid by an incentive program of some sort.

People what part of the get rid of the old employees that have been with the company for years do you not understand? WHY? It saves money! The bottom line is how much you can keep for the company. This is just life. I donít like it but look around you. You see it everyday or hear about it. You work and get your check and go home and when you reach point where the company can let you go and hire someone at a lesser rate.
Things have changed and so have the times! We donít have to like it. But what can you do? Nothing! That is what!

John Johnson was involved in the start up of Comcare. He is a psychologist with a PhD I think so his "Dr" is not an actual medical degree. Don't know who second person was when Comcare started.
