Is comcare a terrible place to work?
glad you asked

Comcare just like every local agency has it's positives and negatives. In my opinion, as an employee there, They are very nit picky about stuff that doesn't really matter, but sweep the big problems under the rug! I will say that the clients they serve are well taken care of. The attitude of the agency is We are here for the clients. The pay is average for the area, The insurance is decent if you are single, but the family plan is not affordable. I'm just blessed to have a job in these hard times. Can't really complain these days

As a former employee of Comcare (or as I like to call it, Communist-Care) I will have to agree with the "nit-picky" comment, and don't blame the now-employee for not slamming Comcare more.(probably afraid it might get back to the administration and they might lose their job)
I don't even know where to begin. I guess I shall start with the heartless executive director, Nancy Theissen. TOTAL BITCH. Would somebody please f**k her already? I think that that might melt the frigid encasement around her shriveled up, blackened arteries. She pretends to care about the employees, however, I was once accosted by her when I was in the administrative portion of the building and she reminded me that I did not belong there, as I was just was just a lowly support staff.(Support-staff= starting position & most likely ending position at comcare)
The clients aren't scary, if that's what the query was about, although it takes a special type of person to do well with them. If puke, or other bodily substances or fluids gross you out, then forget the job compeletly and go work at a gas station or something.
Advice:
Don't be late.
Don't be on the phone.
Don't miss staff meeting.
Don't miss ANY training.
Don't speak up.
Don't make suggestions.
Don't question your supervisor.
Don't question anyone in Administration.
Don't say anything about anyone in the administration.
Don't make friends.
Make sure you fill out every piece of paperwork they give you.
Make sure you sign everything, even if you don't agree with it.
Make sure you keep your head down.
Make sure you find out who has been there the longest, and kiss their ass (cause they will throw u under the bus if you don't)
Kiss everyone's ass, actually.
Don't speak up.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Wow, you sure called Nancy the right way. Once Dr Johnson gave her more power, she was a major bitch. I worked there for 3 yrs. The last 2 and half yrs as a supervisor. The clients are all different but not scary. Each has their own behavior that you learn to work with. Sure you may get hit or spit on sometimes but if you attend training and staff meetings then you know what causes these behaviors and learn how to deal with them before they erupt to a full blown behavior. As for a lot of your list, the State of good ole TN was behind that more than your supervisors were. Yes, ALL paperwork had to be done & turned in on time, signed properly too. I am not sure why you could not talk to your supervisor about anything you needed to, but you could have went to his or her boss.
Anyways I could go on and on but I loved my job and I miss the clients a lot still. You as staff are there to take care of the clients...they pay your salary. So no you should not be on the phones or reading or doing anything that takes your attention away from them. I too was bitched at for being friends with my staff, but I told Dr Johnson & Nancy that what I did outside of work was nothing to them. For future employees...do not keep your head down, DO suggest to your boss your opinions because YOU are the one with the client most often...you know that clients likes and dislikes....which will change just as yours does. Speak up but not rudely....& most of all, do not take a job in this field for the $ you have to LOVE the clients to do it.

Whenever I did have a good supervisor that I could talk to, they always seemed to get let go for some ridiculous reason. Anyway, I made that list to vent more than anything. I hated being there & feeling like I was a second-class citizen. I was there six years, and rarely did I feel like a valued member of a team. Maybe I'm just bitter...

Hey, no problem. I totally understand about that feeling. Many times it was like 'upper management' was better than others. Including shift supervisors. & you are correct, people are let go weekly for some stupid reason. Nancy wanted to have you there, or at least on call 24/7, and you were not to complain about it, not to ask for more money or even a day off. Hopefully you have a better job now that is just as rewarding.:)

I do NOT work for Comcare. But as an insider please listen when I tell you that the DAILY ABUSE/NEGLECT that the Management of Comcare ALLOW to take place is actually criminal. How they treat the employees is criminal. By firing up to 94% of the people that have ever worked there, they have backed themselves in a corner to where they only get applications from 18 year olds or the people that nobody else will hire. Its simple. If you apply with them and have neverf worked with them before, You will be hired! They have no choice. The actual home supervisors are the most un-educated group you will find. They usually only have their jobs by attrition or their "yes men" mentality. The good thing is that the Government is aware of the and how they use the clients and staff s SLAVES to work their contract jobs. I predict very soon that THE MANAGEMENT ( who are both aware of the crimes committed) will be under heavy investigation soon.

IF YOU AFRE A FORMER OR CURRENT EMPLOYEE....AND YOU KNOW OF ABUSE OR NEGLECTFUL SITUATIONS DO THE CLIENTS A FAVOR AND REPORT IT. IF YOU HAVE BEEN MISTREATED AS AN EMPLOYEE PLEASE CONTACT THE FEDERAL WORKPLACE INVESTIGATORS. ONLY TOGETHER CAN THE MANAGEMENT PAY FOR THE CRIMINAL ACTS THEY HAVE ALLOWED TO TAKE PLACE.

How can you be an INSIDER if you do not work there??? I will agree that as a result of firing Good employees they have backed themselves into a corner. They are about to grow, and the question everyone is asking is How will they staff the new homes? Just about everyone there is already working all the overtime they possibly can. When a shift can not be covered, Lord Forbid, A supervisor has to pull a shift. I think it's good for the supervisors to work as staff. Maybe it will open their eyes to reality!!! Not how everything is on paper. With a job like that, you really need your days off! It's the only way to regain sanity. Maybe we should start refusing to work overtime, Then maybe all the supevisors and management can start covering shifts. Only problem with that is the pay is so crappy, overtime is the only way to get ahead.

I worked for them for 3 years, and all they want is robots. It is a firing offense to: ask a question, have an idea, not enjoy getting treated like feces, not grovelling to anybody in management. There seems to be plenty of hatred for "The Theissenator", and she deserves it, but Dr. Johnson showed gross negligence in promoting her.

well i worked at com care for over 4yrs and in that time i saw staff get treated like they were just disposable. It did not matter their opinion, and god forbid u not agree w every thing they said and all the silly rules they would come up with. If u questioned them or would tell them you didnt not agree and made them mad they would find a away to get rid of you. I seen it done many times, they would dig and pick at u until they found something. They streched the staff to thin and would expect them to work themself to death. They said state cut funding but yet they had money to go buy brand new cars and continue to bring in new clients and open new houses, but could not have an extra staff. In which goes back to strechin the staff to far. Yes the clients were takin care of and had very nice well takin care of homes but, the clients were not the issue i had very strong relationships w the clients i took care of they were just like my family. I think the upper management is crooked and backward, and the only way someone would try and justify their actions is if u were one of them. I really hope they all see these post just so they know what people do think bout them, and maybe try and change somethings. Although that prob wont happen because they dont care, and i am pretty sure that is not the way the company should be ran. But hey who am i to say.......

They fire people over nothing yet there is one support staff who was stretching out on the couch and sleeping, which is neglect. Did they fire her? NO!!!!! All they did was put her on day shift at the day program. She would then show up at work with holes in her jeans which was a dress code no no. Was anything said to her? NO!!!!!

I actually do have a better job now and I'm a lot happier. I work with several Ex-Communists (even one of my former supervisors--one of the good ones!) and I finally feel like part of a team :)

Where to begin..seems like my whole life was spent around ComCare. I worked there for too many years to count. The pay was never the greatest but the clients kept me around and the hopes of moving up one day. Lets see Dr. J was ok back in the day but never seemed to give a rats ass about the clients. He is always too professional and pulls away like he's dicusted if they try to touch him. His decision to place the Ice Queen as executive Director is enough to send him to the gallows. She was an idiot before and nothings changed. I tried to turn someone(a supervisor) in for abuse, she ignored it and that I was being bratty. They got fired later because a parent caught them abusing a client. Thiessen is not in control, her puppeteers Lori, Melissa, and Renee are priming themselves to overthrow the queen and already make sure they rule the school. If you want a job you will love + have any positive effect in that job...STAY AWAY!!! you will not be heard, you will be lied to, and will see clients taken care of but have no life outside ComCare and never get a day off unless it is forced...even projectile vomiting they have to work so comcare can count them as a head so they can get their dayprogram funding. I have seen to much there get put under the rug. If you dont kiss ass you are a target, if the uppers like you you can do almost anything short of killing someone before they fire you, if you do your job and lay low...they will find you...they will burn you..and they will execute you...so if your a slacker..you fit in with the head honchos and may survive.

Comcare will lie to you in a heartbeat. As a PRN for the day program, I started being told that there were no openings at the day program, but I could work in the homes. I decided beggars couldn't be choosers and started working as a PRN in some of the homes. Jana Thomas was a real witch. She always made me feel like I was doing something wrong and at 10:30 one night when I got off work she made me go all the way to another house to fill out something in a client's book. I'm sure it could've waited until the next time I worked in that house. After we had words and I quit I found out she dissed my husband. She can say what she wants about me but she had better leave my husband out of it.

when i worked at comcare..i have found that the supervisor for the day program is a real witch she does not do her job she will fuss at you to interact with the clients while she disappears never to be found until the end of the day and writes you up for not being at staff meetings..but where is she most of the time? comcare is not a good business to work for. you finally agree to work overtime(after them calling everyday!) at a specific house and they move you to a different one. they will lie and not think twice about it..my honest opinion stay far away!

I worked at ComCare for almost 5 years and I loved the clients so much. I remember when I first started I was scared to death and did not know what to expect. But I fell in love with the job. Yes management can be a bit demanding and difficult at times, but you have to realize the main purpose of the overtime is that those Clients need to be cared for! And the whole paperwork issue is to protect yourself when state comes in and starts asking millions of questions. It has been a few years since I worked there and yes there was times I felt things were a bit unfair but after working at a different job, I realize how much I actually miss working at Comcare. The things at my job now are so unfair that even if you have a master degree you get started out at min wage and people who do drugs and come in hung over get raises left and right, and special treatment. so as far as management goes, no matter where you work they are going to be people you don't like, agree with, understand their judgement, or even handle being around. The point is this is a job you have to be there for the Clients and to make their lives better. To teach them and love them. Because they can't help their situation, and even though it can be extremely tough sometimes, they are the real reason for COMCARE!

Its simple....Dr. Johnson and crew use the clients to earn $ do NOT let anyone fool you...simply watch how he nedicates each one to fit comcare's needs (which is brain dead). How long until the ppl that work there and used to work there report the TRUTH to this county?
