In order to have sound you must have a source and a device to hear usually an ear. It is highly unlikely a tree in the forest falling does not produce sound because there are so many living things with hearing devices. But it is theoretically possible a tree could fall and not be heard therefore no sound. In logic you must prove the opposite in order to prove the theory. In the case of sound everything in the universe is producing sound constantly unless it is in a total vacuum at absolute 0. Thus there is always sound even by the tree falling in the woods with nobody hearing it.

What if the tree falls on a mime next to the camp of the Deaf Boy Scouts o America? The mime would hear the tree but the Boy Scouts would not hear the mime. So in this case the mime would not make a sound. But I guess we already knew that. I bet he would be cut to shreds by his imaginary glass box.
