I understand what Hmmm is saying. She or he is saying that teaching is like other jobs/careers where you have nepotism.
You see it in private industries, but that is up to the owner to correct if he/she wishes.
Teaching is a public job. The taxpayers are the bosses. Those in charge should not be allowed to do what they do.
You are correct in what I meant, but in all honesty, if the tax payers were your bosses, you guys would not have gotten a raise last year. Nothing against teachers, but a lot of us didn't get a raise. To raise our taxes to give you guys a raise, was wrong.
So True

that's the problem with this director and board , they've forgotten who they work for. This is the most arrogant group of people I've seen in a long time. They are thumbing their nose as they continue to line their pocketbooks with our hardearned money. I don't know anywhere else you are getting raises every year, while the people you take it from get less and less because they say "it's for the children", when we are finding out it's for the adults not the kids. Yes dr. Joe please come back and truly make it about the children. You know how to balance a budget!!!!!!!

Arrwood is running for mayor. He is a teacher and says it was wrong to increase taxes. He posted about it on his website.

He is supposed to be talking against an increase at the commission meeting this morning. I just wish I could go.

Problem with local county school system - is part of the school board is uneducated and not progressive - we can not operate the way it was operated 40 years ago or even 20 years ago. Do you know where our students rank in ACT composite? 3rd from the bottom not third from the top. We need young, educated, critical thinking people to be on the school board. Maybe if we put more money into education we would not continually harp on a jail for our sheriff. Just saying--

Put "MORE" money into education? You must be one of those educated fools teaching our children. More money has not made anything better -- not just in education but in ANY other aspect of government. We the people keep giving more and more money and we see just worse and worse results. When you make anything in life just about the money, your focus is a lost cause. When my mother taught school I didn't hear her once discuss that she needed a raise. She bought things for the children -- even brought them to our home for picnics. Her main goal was "TEACHING"!! She studied hard in college and was continually reading articles to better her education so she could pass that knowledge on to her students. Now it is all about the MONEY. Money does not fix anything!! I could say that a million times but it would fall on deaf ears around this den of thieves. We don't need young innovative children running our school system. Especially those who were not successful in the school system!! That is what Central Office was filled with in the past -- a bunch of idiots who were NOT successful in the classroom or in an administrative position. Lamons was anything but a successful principal!! It just gets more and more pathetic and all the while our children and grandchildren are the ones getting the very, very short end of the stick. I honestly believe one room schools would turn out better educated children than we have in place now. One room schools filled with "highly qualified teachers" not those handed to us by family and friends. It is disgusting to suggest that the older, more experienced and the ones who have actually been successful in teaching/administration should be totally dismissed when openings occur at Central Office. You sound like Obama, when the people get old just make them comfortable and let them die. Obviously you were not taught to respect your elders.

As for the school board, I put all the blame for the mess SHE has made to Dr. Vicki Kirk. She gets paid the BIG bucks and although Roger Jones and others have like minds, the buck stops with her. She has made a mess and has done nothing to gain the respect of the ones who ARE her boss -- the tax payers!! How on earth did the Lamons woman get a spot at supervising any one. She was a lousy principal and now she is going to be a supervisor?? Pathetic really!! Dr. Kirk is proving to be such a player instead of a leader.

All the progressives and critical thinkers have done is progressed us right into the ground or bankruptcy. Just look at the JCPenney store for some of your progressive thinking. That store is not worth going into any more. There is a lot of critical thinking going on in America and that is why our country is in a critical condition. The young squirts just out of school need to put their time in and prove they can do the jobs they will be supervising before going to Central Office. Honestly this Dr. Kirk is either dumber than dirt or making history by being the highest ranked good old "girl" to ever serve in the county system.

I agree except for the part about her being a servant. She is more of a taker than one that serves.

Oh yeah, get some forward thinking young people on there who don't know what it's like to really have to work for a living. Work a 7 day a week job, swing shift, no raise, few benefits, few days off, in dangerous occupations....now let those people get in there and take from the people who've worked hard, been responsible, own land, been willing to work any day, any shift, for less pay and made this county what it is....Money isn't problem you progressives....it's who's in charge, in the school system office, supervisors, principals and yes, teachers who aren't getting it done. I'm not putting all teachers in this pot. But, there are some sorry excuse for teachers that need to do something else. So don't lecture the small 30% of people (property owners) about taxing them more. Give us better results, then we might give you more money. Why are the ACT's so low? Has nothing to do with the money, has to do with the proficiency of the educators to teach in their classroom. Again, there are some wonderful teachers in our schools, they're just as discouraged as the general public because this profession protects their own incompetent.....the onus is on the administration to turn this around. Didn't the paper say all last year's property tax money went for raises and benefits?

Boards can do a lot of damage. You're right. The problem is the gang of 4 or 5 (age has nothing to do with it, their are "young" good old boys and girls too) on that board wh0've once again thumbed their nose at us when they voted to pave a driveway to a field house instead of buying safety equipment or fixing the sewer!!!!I couldn't believe that when I read it!!!!

I am educated but not at the PhD level. However, I don't teach. I am in favor of homeschooling. I do very much respect my elders. I just think that we should spend any extra money on educating our youth rather than buy Steve Burns a new jail.

I think it is sad too that those who have been in the school system for less than 10 years..some less than that get promoted ..just because you have dr. in front if your name doesn't mean anything ..in some cases you are just educated idiots. If you have the education and dont know how to use it then you dont need to have it. No common sense anymore ..our teachers use to teach us more than just basic ..we were taught respect ..how can students be expected to show respect to teachers when teachers dont respect their bosses
