foxfi is good, it works about the same as an in home router, and tethering is transfering internet from a mobile device such a an iphone or android to a computer or laptop. most people use the wifi from it bu some use a wire

I have a 3G tablet, which allows me to tether my connection to my laptop using a USB cable. This made for a more stable connection. It also would allow me to use it as a hotspot (wifi), and I would get a decent but choppy connection. I assume it is the same for any mobile device. I don't use an app for this, so I cannot give you an answer CT. But, like the confused one said, you get what you pay for. Especially when it comes to free and paid apps.:)

Hope this clears things up a little P2BN.

Well, you could always get a device like I described? I think. If you get an early Samsung Galaxy (what I have) it becomes pretty simple to keep internet with you at all times. I have a friend that was grandfathered in too, lucky asses.

I think Verizon can detect wireless/ hot spot connections on jellybean programming.I think they're trying to make unlimited data plan holders switch to a share everything plan.

Are you sure it is the port ON the Galaxy? Or, could it be the charge cable? My tablet has a bad connector going to the tablet and will charge ONLY if the cord is positioned a certain way. That's a cheap replacement from ebay.

For Verizon, you may be able to add a cheap(50-75$) hotspot or tablet with hotspot capabilities to the line after moving your phone to a newly opened line. I would check with Verizon about that though. If the app or that doesn't work, you're screwed. I definitely could see Verizon trying to get you grandfathers in the grave lol. I know Walmart now offers a pre-paid hotspot as well, that could come in handy if you don't watch video often.

Pretty sure it's the port on the phone. Work phone charges just fine with the same charger. As for the hotspot, I use the one I have for work...unlimited data. I run both phones, a notebook and a laptop off it. Sweet. Just that one damn phone that is a bitch to charge. You have to jiggle it to get a charge going then step away very gently to keep it going. Lol!
