If he wanted to play politics he should have done it in another way which would not have hurt so many of his constituents. Things will only get better when the people legally remove people like Phil Roe from office.

“We Americans are not usually thought to be a submissive people, but of course we are. Why else would we allow our country to be destroyed? Why else would we be rewarding its destroyers? Why else would we all—by proxies we have given to greedy corporations and corrupt politicians—be participating in its destruction? Most of us are still too sane to piss in our own cistern, but we allow others to do so and we reward them for it. We reward them so well, in fact, that those who piss in our cistern are wealthier than the rest of us. How do we submit? By not being radical enough. Or by not being thorough enough, which is the same thing.”– Wendell Berry

Mr. Obama stated that a need to raise the debt ceiling was a sign of a failure of leadership. If Mr. Hartley were truly running for Congress, I think these simple quotes and stories would be rolling off the tip of his tongue. The only thing working on his "website" is a place to make your credit card contributions.

You are seriously in need of a better promise writer if you expect anyone to believe you. We do not believe any promises anymore. I think one term is enough for all legislators. We need to get rid of Corker and Alexander. They are truly in it for the status quo.

According to the Greeneville Sun Roe made the statement that he voted against raising the debt ceiling in order to balance the budget in the future. What that means is Roe is advocating not paying the bills the U.S. has made as a way of balancing the budget. Does anybody out there remember what happened to Russian when it no longer paid its bills? It went from one of the two superpowers in the world to nothing that fast. Is that what Roe really wants, for American to follow the path of Russia and be destroyed? He is really not competent to serve, people of his own Republican Party like Jeb Bush are calling him stupid.
Apples and oranges!! Can you expect to compare the USA and barely 70 year post Communism USSR?! Russia had no money, no military, little law enforcement, a large underground economy. Just the path Obama is leading some of you down.

Really? Who keeps the status quo and benefits the most by it?? Corker and Alexander. Mr. Roe could continue being a doctor. Our professional politicians have no real job to return to where they can work 119 days a year and earn full time benefits and pay. Corker and Alexander caved because they and all their family will be fine if nothing changes. Roe has worked in the real world and knows how these actions affect real people with real jobs.

I am looking forward with eager anticipation to Obamacare crashing and burning. The Liberals have everything riding on Obamacare, it is their crown jewel. And when it fails miserably, as I am sure it will, that will be the last straw. People in this country will wake up to these self-entitled scumbag "99 percenter" Liberals, and they will all be rounded up, tarred, feathered, and run out of Dodge on a rail.
Liberalism is a threat to our national security because dependency on government makes people weak. And people like Kelly can't even think for themselves anymore, because it is obvious she gets all her talking points from msnbc. What a dummy.
We need to get rid of all these communist government programs. medicare, social security, the post office, labor unions, fmla and anti-discrimination laws which hurt small businesses. Like you say, government can't manage anything because they mess up everything. I agree totally. Time to take out the government.
Freedom ends where government begins. The founding fathers knew this. When the founding fathers created america, their goal was to free people from tyrants and give the common citizen the ability to self-govern. Now look what's going on: King commie darkie muslim has taken over the country, people who refuse to work for a living have taken over the country, we have turned our backs on God and tyranny is once again thriving.
Let people take care of their own healthcare, let people pay for their own retirement. If you didn't save up for your retirement or healthcare, not my problem. If you bought a house and can't afford to make the payments on it, not my problem. It shouldn't be government's responsibility to bail you out.
Seriously, if you bought a house you couldn't afford, then you should go live under a bridge with the rest of the losers. That will be a good lesson for you to learn. You should have been more responsible and saved instead of frittering away your money.
Obama was elected to give away gifts to people who don't work for a living. Pure and simple. Before he is done he will have 30-50 trillion in debt racked up on programs designed to rob people who work and give all their money to people who don't work.
Hope and change.
You're wrong, ObamaCare won't crash and burn. As with any government program, if it fails, you simply keep throwing more money at it to keep it afloat. We've already seen that with the website. Any private company who would spend that much money setting up a website only to see it crash, would abandon the venture. Not with ObamaCare. Start from scratch and bring in the best to fix it. A downward spiral that will never end.

Dan, I would be interested in hearing your message, as I always have an open ear. In the 'Issues' section of your website, the section on the economy would lead me to believe that you see the solution to our economic issues coming from the government, as everything you list are government solutions.

Further, you state you'd support a raise in the minimum wage. Let me give you a quick lesson in economics. If an employed is forced to raise minimum wage to $11 per hour, as example, the employer will do one of two things. First, they will cut their staff and require those left to work harder. This costs jobs. Second option is to raise their prices. Most businesses that use minimum wage workers produce goods and provide services used by minimum wage workers, hence, the workers dollar is worth less. Additionally, a minimum wage job is meant to be a stepping stone, not a means to support a family. Most people stay in minimum wage positions for a short period and are either given a raise or they move on to a better job. The minimum wage ploy is foolish.

Your issues lead me to believe that you are a liberal with an (R) by your name. If my analogy is wrong, please clarify. If you have a town meeting, please post the date here. I have a group of libertarian friends who would love to come and ask you questions. You might learn something from us.

you are right. all is economy fixes are based on the government doing this and that. these idiots kill me always looking to the government. the government doesn't create jobs or produce revenue or add to the gdp!

here is his solution which I copied from his website:

We need a real boost to our economy if we are to get our unemployment rate down to 5.5% or below, where it was in 2008. Right now, our local unemployment rate is around 7.5%. We need to create attractive incentives for new businesses and for growth of existing businesses, which includes a focus on infrastructure such as road and bridge construction and repair and a plan for the expansion of our regional airport in Sevier County to accommodate regional aircraft from national airlines as this would increase tourism.
