I think the female cardinal is the most beautiful bird of all the outside birds.. we had several "couples" of cardinals at our house Friday night and I've never seen a female cardinal with as much red on her as she had.. she was simply GORGEOUS! This is a great picture too. Thanks for posting it.

Great pic. I had some accidentals at my feeder last year. Very nice Baltimore orile and a scarlet tannager. The orile hang around for a few days feeding.

love an eastern bluebird, get more robins on the lawn than you could believe, and several red-headed woodpeckers in nearby residence

We get lots of cardinals here. Nothing prettier than a bright red plumage backdropped in a bright green tree.

Out here we have so many kinds of birds .. I watch bluebirds, Baltimore orioles (who nest on our property), all kinds of herons, buntings, hawks, woodpeckers, and the normal garden variety of birds.. I have to get my bird book out just to identify what they are a lot of the time...We have a pair buzzards who nest in the old barn... The little orioles are so interesting and it's neat to watch them all take off in fight as a flock.. they come and mainly sit on stalks of weeds/tall grass and eat the seeds..They nest in the bushes on one of our RV pads..There is a lot to be said for living in the country if you are a bird watcher...Of course, my inside parrots scream when they see a hawk, or a cat, or the neighbor's cows....Nothing gets past them. But, I think the female cardinal is the most beautiful of all...

Eerie story: My grandads favorite bird was a cardinal. His favorite baseball team was the JC cards and St. Louis cards and bird watched for them often as a hobby. He died unexpectedly about 6 years ago. We buried him on a beautiful day and as we were lowering the coffin, a cardinal came and rested on it for a few seconds. Since that day, I've found that I've encountered one more often on days that i have struggled. Whether one believes in God or not, this is something that is comforting and just plain coincidental.

I don't think it's eerie at all.. I think it is God sending you a blessing. Two stories along that same vein.. A lot of people had been praying for a little baby girl on FB, her name was Izzy and her Momma called her Izzy Bee and a bee was the mascot for jewelry, etc. to help with their expenses... at her funeral 2 weeks ago in cold snowy north NY state, a bee appeared at the funeral.. got on her Momma's shoulders and coffee cup and stayed right with them. I believe it was also a sign of comfort.

My Dad was a welder.. died several years ago and was buried at our little country church on the lake. My cousin told me that during the burial, of all things to be going on, a guy was welding right there beside the church. Said the welding sparks were flying. My cousin also thought it was comforting and a sign... I just feel like those things happen to bring comfort when really needed. That's JMHO of course...

Oh yeah. Birds. They're great.

Until they get so arrogant they can't wait until you put seed in the feeder again, so they start banging their little heads on the plate glass window while some of us are trying to take a little nap.
