Thanks for the links. It looks like a dog to me, a mut of many breeds maby, but a dog all the same. I could see a wild dog attacking other animals and stuff, and if there was this one there are definatley other ones. Is this being studied by any professionals?

i know what the animal is..its part pitbull and shepard mixed with a wolf...i seen one just like it..but it only lived a short time about a year old...it gets it fang look from the wolf..and its short nose from the dog mix..off course the dog half may not be pit and shepard but a close match..and any wild dog will attack humans..the most interresting thing to me is why this dog was alone...it should of formed a pack by now..but the wolf in it could of kept it from forming a dog pack..i would have loved to of seen it,in person..i would of loved to of heard its voice..and knowed if it barked.or howed..if it howls that would explain not forming a dog pack..but if it barks it should of formed with dogs..

The dog in it kept him from forming a pack.
The wolf in it would have found a pack.
Coyotes are lonely canines.
Could have something to do with the mix too.

yes a coyotes do run alone..but allways close to a pack..they maybe scattered for over a mile..but all ways call for the pack when spoting prey..do to the size i dont belive coyote was in the breed..a wolf howls and talks to the pack ..but is most often alone...any dog set in the wild..will join up with other dogs in a short time..they form much like coyotes do by barking to find other dogs..if a coyote can get a dog away by its self..the pack will attack and eat the dog..coyote dog mix is rare..never seen it happen with out both animals being tame..30 year ago there was a dog pack where i lived had over 100 wild dogs, untill they were killed they were a nightmare..killed livestock..and finely got to trying to attack people..

windago have been hiding out in the woods of northern maine for years.one ran across the road in front of our car last fall up in the allagash.was too fast for the camera and we had no gun so we have no proof....but we know what we seen was not natural.we talked to an oldtimer and he said it was probably a windago

A Windigo is a myth, often associated with Big Foot and the Yeti. What you probably saw, "we seen one" was a black bear, they're really fast and are gone in the blink of an eye. I've lived in Maine my entire life, this animal simply looks like a domestic dog/wolf hybrid. I know that wolves are said to be "extinct" in Maine but there have been sightings. I live less than 10 miles from where this animal was found and I still feel comfortable playing outside with my son near the woods.

It looks like a dog that is half wolf and half dog, I don't think it is that creepy looking, it is just a dog that is a strange mixture, I feel bad for the poor thing.

Maby it did travel in a small pack of two or three. It doesn't look big enough to take on a fully grown rotwieler(sp) by itself, and dobermans are so sleek and fast. But who knows, theres not really anything in either of those pictures to compare its size to. Lots of dogs have their canine teeth hanging down like that, my poodle does if you pull his lips back!
