First, that's not the law. Second, every vehicle should be able to drive in their lane w/o having someone cross the center line -- 1 or 2 or 10 abreast, the results would've been much the same.
Not to mention the sheer stupidity of pulling out around a LINE of cars which are pulling over. DUH? Anyone here, in that situation, going to assume it's an invitation to pull out and pass?

Sheesh, that's clearly a sign the dude is an idiot who has no business driving a car.

It's too bad they weren't pulling over for a 10 ton firetruck what would have mashed his sorry excuse for an a ss into a wet, runny, red puddle.

I wouldn't want a mtorcyclist to ride in the oil. They should keep their tires in the wheel lanes.

Chalk another one up to inexperienced drivers. In a 5 day time frame, my mom's mailbox was wiped out by an 18 yr old driving too fast, and then she was involved in a car accident where a 16 yr old wasn't paying attention and plowed right into my mom's car. Something has to be done about these kids and their irresponsible driving habits.

"Nobody know what the cause of this accident was..."

Really? You mean crossing the centerline isn't a cause?

That's pretty much a sure-fire cause of accidents, when you crash head-on into another vehicle.

The EMS people will leave the victims as they are found if is determined the are deceased. The Coroner is the only person that can move a deceased body after the police/crime scene activities. Those are bodies covered by sheets. People in cars need to keep their eyes open. If this kid was DUI or OWI he should be charged with vhehicular manslaughter.
"Those are bodies covered by sheets."

How do you know that?

What this story fails to mention is that Joseph Hurley II and Lisa Rhoades were married and had two children.

This is pure B-S putting all the blame on the kid - why were people pulling over in the first place - the bikes should have been in their own lane so I ask WTF? He possibly was trying to *avoid* someone who had stopped in his lane and made a split-second decision to avoid them - some of you people have a cranial-rectal inversion!

Riding and driving are both risky - thinking you own the road is negligent and reckless.

The bikes were in their own lane. The car drivers pulled over to allow them to pass. The KID was the one in the wrong lane...Did you not read the article??? It was the KID'S fault - point blank. Now who has the cranial-rectal inversion?

i am sorry that this happened, and the kid made a mistake...
HOWEVER, why did oncoming traffic pull over? perhaps the 'charity' thing was too large? i ride, and i drive... too often i see fools on bikes that think they own the road...
the lesson here is to drive defensivly in a car or on a bike...
again sorry for the tradgedy, LETS WORK TO MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN-- THAT INCLUDES EXAMINING EVERYONES PART IN THIS...

That driver should be charged with vehicular manslaughter, because that's exactly what it was. Motorist need to start paying attention to motorcycles- we have as much right to the road as cars do.

Ummm...this was ongoing traffic that pulled over. Why would you pull over if the bikes coming from the other direction were all in their own lane? I don't deny that it was the kid's fault, but there should never be a reason for cars to pull over just because there are a group of bikers driving toward you. Perhaps some rules and reason should be enforced on both groups.

By tomorrow, we should start hearing from this doofus' MySpace bros'n'hos and the shocked and brokenhearted friends who want us to know what a swell guy he was.

The first driver approaching the bikes might share some responsibility.
The article doesn't mention that the bikes were encroaching on oncoming traffic. Maybe the dude in the first car pulled over to watch them bo by, and the other cars followed thinking the bikes were in the wrong lane. Either way, the punk that killed those people needs to be sentenced to a long term to think about what he did in order to save a few minutes.

In Dearborn County 4 people lost their lives in TWO different motorcycle accidents yesterday. Today another motorcycle accident claimed the life of someone in Ripley County. Yes, the boy was at fault in the first accident, but we have all made small mistakes while driving but only a few of us are big enough to admit it. It only takes a second to change a life.

Someone ask why there wasn't a police escort, there was a police escort. I also heard from someone who had past one batch of these riders that motorcycles were hugging the yellow line.

Motorcycles are dangerous. Riders have to assume some risk.

It could be that rarely-used and somewhat quirky thing we call 'courtesy'.

But I thought it was OK for teen-agers to drink. That's what people were saying in defense of Jack Trudeau's little party. They said if they are old enough to join the military, they are old enough to drink.

you people are sad! this is an 18 year old kid! Just graduated highschool. He had a future to a very bright one! He is a star basketball player and has a full scolarship to a college! the media is making this look really bad all in all it is about an inexperienced driver! he didn't just "PLOW" through this poker run!The cars in front of him started to slow and the car in front of him slammed on there brakes o avoid hitting the car on instinct jerked the car to the other lane hitting the motorcycles! Alot was lost yesterday the lives of innocent people and the future of a very bright boy all due to an ACCIDENT!!

maybe the motorcyclists should of had helmets too!! How safe are you on a bike?? not to safe with nothing around you to protect you in my eyes and opionion and not just cause of this accident, you climb on a motorcycle you take that chance just like you do getting in a car!

Someone mentioned something as to why "there wasn't a police escort." It sort of seems as though there just may have been, which explains why the cars were pulling off to the side of the road to begin with.

Isn't that the correct thing to do? See an emergency vehicle approaching and pull off to the side to allow them to pass?

Tragic chain of events that took place all around.
