Aww, give the kid a break. He was just looking for his "Fiddy Cent" CD.

He "only looked down for a second".

I am offering an apology to the families of the ones killed, even though I had nothing to do with the posting of this picture. I am thoroughly disgusted with The Indianapolis Star online people for posting it. No one should ever have to see a pic like this, especially posted on the web with the bodies still laying there. Even more so when you can see an arm hanging out from one sheet and what looks like part of someone's jeans from under a 2nd sheet. Shame on you Indy Star!

As a rider myself, I can tell you that it would not have mattered if they had had helmets or not. If you looked at the picture and seen the force with which they were hit, nothing would have stopped the carnage.

IF this were in fact a charity ride, why was there not police escort as in other charity rides?

You've got quite an imagination.

There are no victims in that picture. Obviously, they've been removed. First, you can't see them. Second, do you think the emergency responders would just leave the victims laying out while they went out for a cup of coffee?

I'm glad they posted that photo. To people who know about accident scenes, that provides useful information.

And motorcyclists like myself, that smashed windshield is a grim reminder of what can happen.

This is an awful story. Don't blame the newspaper, though. This is about the perils that two-wheeled motorists face every day.

You should be. Riding motorcycles on the road is basically playing Russian roulette. These idiot auto drivers out there will NOT see you and don't care either.

Nope, no one should EVER have to.

But just perhaps, bringing such reality into the fantasy world some drivers live in will make them a teensy bit more aware of what's going on around their vehicle next time they head down the road.

I am not giving this kid a break, but it is not always the car's fault. Obviously this one was, but yesterday I had 10 motorcycles try to pass me at once. If I had not been paying attention to the car coming from the other way and gotten off to the side of the road, at 55 mph mind you, the cycle would have met the same result. Please people, cars and cycles, pay attention.

this happens more than we see a driver under the age of 21 who doesnt see a motorcycle, they are all in a hurry, just last night north of nappanee indiana the same thing happened, an 18 year old driver failed to see a motorcycle that had the right of way and pulled out in front of it, and this was at 10:00 last night! the female passenger was killed and the driver seriously hurt, they need to be severely penalized for these actions, they all think that they special and in a hurry, governor daniels needs to look at this since he is a rider, it could be him next.

Accidents happen. Motorcyclists shouldn't ride double breast. They should ride single file down the road. Nobody knows what the cause of this accident was. Lets stop speculating.

The EMS people will leave the victims as they are found if is determined the are deceased. The Coroner is the only person that can move a deceased body after the police/crime scene activities. Those are bodies covered by sheets. People in cars need to keep their eyes open. If this kid was DUI or OWI he should be charged with vhehicular manslaughter.

The cops had more important things to do than serve and protect.

I quit riding motorcycles for reasons like this. Too much traffic nowdays. Too little protection on a motorcycle. Somebody like this kid makes one mistake and the motorcyclist take the worst of it.

First, that's not the law. Second, every vehicle should be able to drive in their lane w/o having someone cross the center line -- 1 or 2 or 10 abreast, the results would've been much the same.
