Blair tells DePauw: Unity is key to surviving in today's world

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said his message to more than 4,000 people at DePauw University on Monday was simple: No single country - not even the United States - can stand on its own.

Too bad he did not practice this while in power himself. Why do all these (deposed) guys find such wisdom only after they have lost their position of direct influence...tells you who is really running the show...MONEY! MONEY! MONEY! The truth, in this regard, is that the "cynics" are the realists and the "realists" are the fools.

Inspiring as always. Simply wish he could have persuaded his American counterpart of the same wisdom. But, at least he's still pitching.

I can tell you were not at his speech nor do you understand much. Why don't you pick up a book and really understand what he did in office. For example there was no violence with his Northern Ireland settlement. Yes, his hard tactics in Iraq, etc. was not popular, but he did much, much, much, more than that in his three terms.

Too bad that you obviously do not know what you are talking about. You are too ignorant to even respond to this article. Tony Blair is a man of convictions, not driven by popularity or polling. He governs himself by intellegence, not by emotions or money.

I miss the CSPAN coverage of Blair and the House of Commons. It was great fun.

Tony Blair is truly a man of our times. History will be very kind to Tony Blair and George Bush for standing up for World Terrorism at the expense of thier own popularity. These are very troubling times. Unity is extremely important.

He doesn't govern himself by intellegence and money ... don't you think it was $$$$ King-ola-cash that brought the fine ex prime minister to Indiana??? Of course it was. This was also the case when W slid his hand up his warm arse and puppeteered him to war.
So what's wrong with making a living, and charging for personal appearances? Doesn't your boy "Slick Willie" get about $100,000 for each of his?
As I recall, Tony was an ally to Clinton as well.
He has a history of being a friend and supporter
of the US politics aside. Also,I don't remember Bill's hand being up Tony's arse! That's right, both of his hands were occupied up the dress of interns! You fool!

LOL! You did get one thing right! Both Bush and Blair did STAND UP for terrorism when they launched this nightmarish war. In fact, they have created a veritable assembly line of radicals that hate America. I could care less about history's treatment of men. It is my hope that they are both "treated" to a cell in the Hague for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

At least the British have a system that allows them to toss their leader at the drop of a hat. Here in Ameica, we have had to suffer through 8 hellish years under Bush.

Ah, he's on his cha-ching, time to collect cash tour. What an idiot. Anyone who goes to hear him speak about how he and the other idiot, George Bush, conquered Iraq and Al Quaeda, are fools too.

The thing that sustains me is that you right-wing conservatives will soon be gone. Bush was, and still is, the worse f-in idiot to ever serve in the White House.

We did. Obviously you don't.

...."muslims are now starting 'thier' own government within the british government....? I'm sure the British Government would be most interested in your statement, especially Scotland Yard. Why don't you call them and share your findings with them?

Oh really? I need to read a book?
Tony and I were born the same year...I think I've got a clue about the world during his time here. When Mr. Blair failed his largest test of leadership there is a measure of disappointment that (now) accompanies him. To his credit, he knows he failed in this regard...but I am not sure how one can ever really reconcile the damage that was done.

I wonder if Tony had his speech approved first since he's Bush's poodle? No county can stand on its own yet he supported Bush and his go it alone war in Iraq. Oh I forgot, Blair was naive and went along for the ride too

Yep unity ok, they united much of the world to hate us. The history of the middle east will be kind to them thanking these two morons for destroying America

If only we did....

It actually takes the political party of the serving PM to turn against him/her..The people themselves have no say in the matter until election time..

As a true British person and patriot, I would like to say that I,m with you all the way on this Vinnie..I consider the hellish Blair/Brown alliance to be the worst and most damaging in our history..

Hmmmm, well let,s see now.
After the 9/11 attacks the IRA held all the cards, did,nt they?
The fact of the matter is they had no place else to go only to try and cut the best deal they could.
Fortunately for them we happened to have the worst deal maker for Britain in power at the time..
The same PM who gave BACK to EUROPE everything that Margaret Thatcher had gained for our nation..
If the truth is told John Major had a more important and unappreciated role in brokering the peace.

And I,m not a conservative voter BTW..
