My child is a student at Greenbrier Middle School. Do to lack of funds my child does not have a science book to take home. The children can only use them in the classroom. The students that do have internet access can read the textbook online at home. But what about those students who's parents can't afford the internet or a computer? This is not equal opportunity for all students. Why are there not more funds allocated for textbooks? Do we need to raise taxes in this county? Or does the school board need to have questions raised about their budget allocations? Are we headed toward a textbook free school someday, where our childre learn to read online? Are there any other shortages among the other schools in Robertson county? Please respond if you know of a shortage of textbooks in other Robertson County Schools.

My child does not have books either. His book are not on the internet. They keep saying they will be, but they are not let. Also his Math book is out dated, ( does not teach to the tennessee standards ) so they run copies from the correct book and hand them out. The problem seems to be, when the county ask for a new tax to go to the schools, they remove other funds and the net is a lose for the schools. So beware of taxes earmarked for the schools. The lack of a magnet school in this county is unbelievable.

What's going on? Wasn't the lottery brought in in order to help fund education? Don't tell me that thing's broke too!
Personally, I think the whole basket is rotten, we'd better just toss it all. |

Let me clarify something, when I said don't tell me that thing's broke too, I should have printed "broke" instead of the way I did print it, as broke. Actually though, no real value ever existed in the lottery.

If I remember correctly the lottery money is earmarked for secondary education and some has gone towards preschool, nothing inbetween. |

The lottery money is for the continuing of education at colleges, not for the public school system.
I have had two children go through the Greenbrier schools and have one in the middle school now. No, there are not enough books to go around. No, I don't know why they don't buy enough to make it feasible to give books to all students. The only thing you can really try to do is find the books yourself and purchase them. You can also make your name known at the Board of Education and attend the meetings. It's a long process but it might be worth it. |
