Wind Turbines on Salem Knob

Monday, a green energy company based out of Kansas surveyed Wallace Knob and Salem Knob for placement of electricity generating wind turbines. It was determined that the promontories of over 1,1000 feet in elevation above sea level that average 300 foot in elevation above their surroundings catch sufficient annual wind to regularly spin our new highly-efficient, carbon fiber-bladed turbine towers. The power generated from these turbine installations will provide a large part of Salem's energy needs. Cheap, renewable wind power is coming to Salem for the 21st Century!

Wind turbines are noisy and kill birds------lots of birds, like endangered birds such as eagles.

But at a minimum, the scientists wrote, wind farms in 10 states have killed at least 85 eagles since 1997, with most deaths occurring between 2008 and 2012, as the industry was greatly expanding. Most deaths -- 79 -- were golden eagles that struck wind turbines. One of the eagles counted in the study was electrocuted by a power line.
The vice president of the American Bird Conservancy, Mike Parr, said the tally was "an alarming and concerning finding."
