My father (born 1906) grew up two blocks away from Dillinger on the south side of Chicago. He tells of playing baseball with J.D. when they were kids. According to Dad, J.D. didn't like making an out and would throw his bat in anger. Other than that, he was just another neighborhood kid. Dad says "He didn't seem like he would turn out like he did. He just had a temper". Yes Dad,I guess so.
