Join the military?

Full story: The Courier-Journal

It's a big mistake to mix-up the idea of service -- or the idea of sacrifice and suffering -- with the idea of heroism. Honestly readers, both supporters and non-supporters the war, how many of you would encourage your children to join the military to help fight the Iraq War or even Bush and McConnell's war on terror? How many ... via The Courier-Journal

WHATEVER GAVE ANYONE A THOUGHT THAT THIS IS "BUSH OR MCCONNELS" WAR AND OR WAR ON TERROR. I SUPPOSE THEY WERE ACTUALLY INVOLVED IN THE PREVIOUS WARS THAT HAVE BEGAN! THIS IS NOT THEIR WAR, BUT THE WAR OF OUR COUNTRY. FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH THE ARROGANCE TO SAY THE NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT THIS SITUATION WE ARE IN AND CAN'T GET OUT OF IT, WHY DON'T YOU VOLUNTEER TO PROTECT YOUR IGNORANT A-- AND HELP PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS OF THIS COUNTRY THAT WE NOW LIVE IN.

Because once again it comes downt o the difference between supporting this war and supporting our troops.
I am 100% against this war. I think it was not well thought out, I think it was arrogant, I think it was stupid, and I think we as a people were lied to.
But my best friend is a Marine, I have another friend in the marines, one in the army, and one in the airforce, as well as one considering the marines. I support them wholeheartedly. I burst with pride for them. I don't want them over there. I don't want them in this war.
Therefore, I support them and all the other troops, but not the war in which we are currently engaged.
This war is not, as is so often stated, a war about freedom, a war about protecting our freedoms, a war about protecting our country. The fear mongering that is going on in the U.S. is just as bad as the terrorists tht seek to destroy us. Our country stood so strong after 9/11 only to be brought into the grip of terror by the Bush administration. Because of that we allowed the terrorists to win.
As for this war being our country's war ... yes and no. Ou country has had to adopt this war, but considering that it was started without congressional apporval, it is not exactly the war of the American people. Consider - the men and women that have been elected to speak for us were not given a chance to speak therefor how can this war be a fair representative of our people and our wishes.
