Smoking ban results in petition

There are 4 comments on the The Green River Star story from Dec 12, 2007, titled Smoking ban results in petition. In it, The Green River Star reports that:

“My hunch is even if a referendum is in place, you can still bring it back up for reconsideration”

Even though the smoking ordinance will officially go into effect at midnight, it's up in the air as to whether or not the ordinance will remain. via The Green River Star

If the public was honestly and truthfully informed about the effects of second-hand smoke, there would be fewer no-smoking laws in this country.
A little smoke from a handful of crushed leaves and some paper that is mixed with the air of a decently ventilated venue is going to harm or kill you?

There has never been a single study showing that exposure to the low levels of smoke found in bars and restaurants with decent modern ventilation and filtration systems kills or harms anyone.

As to the annoyance of smoking, a compromise between smokers and non-smokers can be reached, through setting a quality standard and the use of modern ventilation technology.

Air ventilation can easily create a comfortable environment that removes not just passive smoke, but also and especially the potentially serious contaminants that are independent from smoking.

I hope that all public places will be smoke free!

I have been asthmatic most of my adult life, and one of my children is as well. I'm not against smoking areas, I just feel that the majority of places should be breathe-friendly.

People shouldn't have to risk a potential attack if they want to go bowling or need to use a public bathroom.

Ventilation systems are great, but most places (especially small businesses) can't afford them.

Smokers stink. Smokers are in denial about cancer and cigarettes. Cigarettes do CAUSE CANCER.

So those of us who go into severe breathing problems that could cause death as a result of smoke are just suppose to lay down and die for smokers? Chilren are suppose to get ear and respiratory infections for you? I for one am glad I can finally go out to eat, bowling, etc. Go kill yourself with smoke somewhere else but leave me out of it. To me smoking in public is as bad as drinking and driving. What you do in your own space is your deal but you cannot be allowed to take others with you!
