Eric and I went way back, SEAL Team one days. I remember being out front of the Team and seeing this young Force Recon kid coming into the quarter deck. I asked him "what's up, you lost". He said no I'm checking in, just graduated BUD/S.. From then on Eric and I became very good friends. I was in Hawaii about 3 weeks ago for the COMPACFLT Sailor Of the Year and met up with him and had dinner the night before I flew back to San Diego. I really wish I had spent more time with him.. Eric.. I love you like a brother.. I miss you.

Eric, We will miss you, may you rest in peace. My family and I are so sad by the shocking news. It seems like it was only yesterday that you were hanging out with my dad. I'll miss all your crazy costumes and your love for getting into character with your awesome fiance Krissy. To Erics family and his Fiance Krissy, We will always remember and cherish our time with Shelly.

I met Eric in Hawaii for the first time last halloween. I was in town for my friends wedding which Eric also attended. I spent a few days during that time with Eric and I will never forget him. He was a great friend and a hero to us all. To all of those who served with Eric, to all his family, friends, and everyone else who was lucky enough to meet him my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Eric,

Words cannot sum up how much you will be missed by me and all your friends. We gathered at Danny’s and toasted you….our hero! I feel blessed for the opportunity of sharing our lives together and will cherish the time we loved each other. I have so many good memories of you and your positive spirit, traveling to see you, hanging out with our friends, your wonderful family, and all your funny stories! Shelly thank you for your service, thank you for being bigger than life and such an inspiration, thank you for those big arms that held me at night, thank you for that smile that we will never forget! You have always been and always will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Shelly was an amazing friend, workout partner, and mentor to me. I went to SEAL Team 1 as a young EOD guy and was on Eric's Platoon when we deployed to Afghanistan. He and I instantly clicked and he took me under his wing and showed me what it took to fully integrate with the SEALS and gain respect, no easy task! I have since deployed several times with many different teams, but have never had another Platoon that even came close to that one.
It was an HONOR to serve with Eric and the rest of GOLF Platoon. He was the ultimate SEAL Warrior! I will truly miss you my brother. Like Dan said, I am sure you and Jon are having a great time. I will miss you both.

Rest In Peace Bro

Murph, i'm sorry for your loss. i spent a few years in Okinawa at Kadena AFB starting around 2001 during my time i had seen a staging area for SEAL team 1, and had also worked with the EOD troops on base.where you ever there?
i apologize that this is so far off topic. Eric seemed like an absolutely amazing person. i am very saddened for everyone's loss.

Eric and I were roomates in Okinawa during his early days in the Corps. I had lost contact with him over the years, and just this evening learned of his passing.
He was a great person, extremely loyal to friends that were close to him. Always kicked my butt at any challenge. I will miss you a great deal. Semper Fi my brother.

I just found out about Eric's passing. I had the honor to serve with him while I was in the Marines stationed in Okinawa. Eric was a true leader. He was a Marines, Marine. While serving as one of my SGTs he was younger than I, but out ranked me. We played softball on our shop team. Being older, I could tell this kid had "it". I kept in touch with him while I was at Camp Lejeune, and he in Camp Pendelton. I lost touch with him when I got out. I just found out he left the Marines for the SEALS. I wasn't surprised, that was Shelly as we called him. After reading his obit, I couldn't only marvel at his accomplishments, only to say to myself, that's Shelly. America has lost a true hero! Semper Fi Shelly!! May you rest in peace!

I served with Eric at Camp Lejeune NC back in 1993/94. He was always a respectful person and a damn good Marine. I just found out 3 years after the fact. Rest in peace brother and Semper Fi!
