As Barbara mentioned earlier in the forum. Roman Jewlers is a reputable place. I've delt with them twice. Both good experiences. Very professional and helpful. They don't treat you like a Crackhead trying to score some cash. They are located on Western Ave in Gulderland right next to Sutter's Mill across from the SUNY campus.

I was really surprised how fair and generous they were to me at ASE. At first I was a little skeptical because I had never sold jewelry before but I did my research prior to coming into their store on Route 9 in Latham and they were spot on.

I had a collection of gold pieces of jewlery that belonged to my mother and for sentimental reasons I have been hesitant to sell them. After talking to Annie at ASE, I felt much more comfortable about selling them. She was not pushy, didn't try to rush me into a sale and was very considerate of my feelings.

I just went in to ASE Metal today after doing a little on line research and checking the above comments. I have no experience doing this and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was and how kind and courteous Jen and Jason were. Everything was explained in detail over the phone and I brought in some of my unused/broken or outdated jewelry and was so surprised how much I got for so little. I have been thinking of it for a while and am so glad I went in today.

Have been to ASE several times and always leave happy, I actually drive from Albany every time because they have always given me the best return for my gold. They are pleasant and easy to work with. I have been to several other places but always come back to ASE because they pay more. My only compliant is that they pay by check, but the bank is right down the road so even that not a big deal.

Why would someone think they would pay more because it's "designer"? The metal recover places just melt it down and 18k is 18k no matter who made it into jewlery previously.

I checked out several other places before going to ASE and they all seemed to have "designer" and antique stuff for sale so I think maybe they pay more but I guess I don't know.

After reading posts did go to ASE Metal Recovery...As stated everyone who worked there was professional and courteous...Annie helped me with the gold jewelry that i brought in...she explained which items were 10k or 14k and answered any questions i had regarding the jewelry... Was a pleasant experience and feel that i got a fair deal which is all i wanted....thank you Annie for the help....i certainly will go back there if i am selling again...

You can sell your gold to Nicky the Sneak. He doesn't have a shop, but he works out of a Ford Bronco parked down by the river.

Oh...when you approach his truck whistle "Fly Me to the Moon", so he'll know you're okay. Also, don't look him directly in the eyes...he hates that.

In Albany there's Mark Lawson Antiques too. They buy scrap gold and silver, and depending on the piece sometimes they'll pay more than just the gold value (since they deal in jewelry and antiques). They also have an office in Saratoga Springs. I think their website is www.marklawsonantiques.com

he's the worst, took some coins there and left and got double at the next place, lawson is a rip-off...do your homework, why the trade gets a bad name because of these types of con-men
