Have the politicians not taken the economic impact serious enough? They had better wake up and see the domino effect which will occur over the next three years.

OMG, they are letting the mentally ill go into the community with minimal supervision. What in the hell is our government thinking? Nothing but bad will come from this. Many of those people NEED the structure of an institutional setting. With out it many will fall through the cracks and cause harm to themselves or others.

News flash its called deinstitutionalation a fancy word for clearing out the NYS mental institutions. It's been going on for at least 30 yrs. The nys prison system now houses a lot of the mentally ill, because a small proportion of then tend to commit more crimes etc. Not saying I agree, but that's the sad truth.

Why should the tax payer spend thousands of dollars a month on 520 workers to care for less than 70 clients? Ogdensburg is full of mentally ill, just look at our city council maybe, a couple of real cuckoo's will run for council and make it a RACE!

You certainly have missed the point. The money will be spent downstate at other facilities. The same taxpayer dollars will leave this community and be infused into Albany's and Syracuse pockets. What will they take next? Perhaps one or two prisons?

Wake up the local politicians and let them know how this will impact the local economy and the valuable services SLPC to the community of which they serve. If a person makes a choice to step into the limelight of politics they should be prepared for harsh constructive criticism.

On that note, Bryan Mitchell should sever his ties as bartender at the bowling alley if he is to be elected to city council. Knocking back the shots with the younger generation while working is not good business sense for the bowling alley nor for a future member of city council.

The people who work at the center will just have to relocate. No jobs are forever.
Glad to see it happen because way to many people have been sucking that teat for too long.

Yes many have for too long. The sad fact is that all the haters' negative comments are true for downstate facilities too. In fact, worse and the patients gettreated muchworse as there exists even more of a thug attitude down there. Themoney WILL be spent elsewhere and the northcountry loses againAND the prison on campus will ,closetoobecause thecost for the cogenerator will be prohibitive without the hospital

Maybe we should consider asking Ogdensburg Bridge and Port to start petitioning another manufacturing company from Canada to move to the industrial park and actually create 200-300 NON-PRISON/MENTAL HEALTH jobs in the city?

It wouldn't take a miracle from God to create jobs here in the city - just people who really want to see companies move to the area, jobs created for local citizens and etc.

Watertown has a call center - why can't we have something similar?

The majority of call centers are outsourced to India, because the labor is much cheaper.

The city council used to have good qualified people. Business and well educated professional people. Look at what we have now! Retired cops, ret. Niagara Mohawk losers, do-gooders and teachers who graduate people who cant read or fill out a job application. It has become a joke and popularity contest. The City Mgr. billed as a successful business Mgr. Takes the job WHY??? He was not so successful at paying for health insurance and retirement benefits! Just another loser on the taxpayers tab..
