Great thoughts and wonderful motivations however, the State of Wisconsin will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, cut their prison population significantly. There are too many jobs at stake. Wisconsin in broke. There are very few industries relocating here. So, how do you get people to work? Simple-keep the prison population as well as the county jail system going. Look at all of the jobs that it creates.
Wisconsin has about 35 or so prison type facilities in this state. This is not counting the 75 county jails.
If Tommy Thompson becomes a US senator, he will build private prisons here. He will look like a hero to a select few while living lavishly off the misery of a lot. His ownership of a Prisoner canteen company insures that he has an excellent lifestyle. Crime sure pays!
Hey, for the state of Wisconsin and all of it's supposed law and order types? Thank God for crime. If they did not have it, this would be a sorrier state than it already is.
So, very ambitious to reduce the population, won't happen. The WIDOC and the republican legislators will not their constituents starve.
Oh yeah, before all of you right wing, conservative law and order lovers respond to this, please note, I am for prisons, I am for the death penalty. If a crime is committed, do the punishment. But remember, the prison system is run by the department of Corrections. Corrections meaning to correct an inappropriate behavior, not perpetuate it so that the jobs do not run out.
It is not meant to give people jobs so that the politicians can keep getting voted back into office.
Finally, it is sad when the Wisconsin Department of Corrections just deals in "human cattle" with little or no regard for the outcomes.

Democrats are the ones that love their government jobs, prisons, cops, district attorneys, etc.

It was Bill Clinton that brought us the law and order type of laws with the passage of the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement act, which put more cops on the streets, banned guns for civilians, and created more fuller prisons.

As for the prisons being full up in wisconsin, that 5hit didn't happen on Walker's watch, it happened under Doyle's watch.

Private prisons are not the answer to the prison system. This system needs to try something new. Being a citizen of the USA should be a priority when private prisons are considered. It sounds like a cheap labor systems is planned for the State of Wisconsin. So much for outsourcing services.

If Tommy Thompson becomes a US senator, he will build private prisons here. He will look like a hero to a select few while living lavishly off the misery of a lot. His ownership of a Prisoner canteen company insures that he has an excellent lifestyle. Crime sure pays!
