It's that time again, time to get the house and yard ready for the winter. I have slowly been getting the storm windows (the old fashioned version of double pane glass) painted, all the fixtures tightened and put out now that the temperature has dropped.
Branches that I have been pruning (and drying) all summer have now been stacked and put under cover, along with a nice pile by the wood stove for that first icy morning. This reminds me of the "great branch buster" of a couple of winters ago. Any downed limbs you have during the winter make great fuel for the coming year (don't let the tree trimmers just grind them to sawdust).
Keeping that big storm in mind, keep a bit of emergency equipment (like kerosene lanterns, extra food, a battery operated radio and flashlights) on hand to get through at least 3 days.
As in life, we need to make sure that we are prepared for the unexpected storms, since we never know what might hit next. The best thing we can do, is get our house in order (inside as well as out).
That's my opinion and you're entitled to it.
