I think that most of you know by now that spring is not my favorite time of the year. Oh, I don't mind daylight saving time at all, which is one benefit of the season. As for the rest, the on and off wind (I suppose it still serves some purpose in the grand scheme of things) and the hayfever (as I've said before) bother me to no end.
Another element of spring I do (and probably always will) enjoy however, is working in the yard. The greening of the grass (due to fertilizer put on in the fall and again near the end of winter) really pleases me. Keeping it cut and neat makes me feel as though I've accomplished something that really spruces up the neighborhood and the city, for that matter.
I guess another thing I like (something Gladys and I share) is going out to local department stores and nurseries, looking for (what Gladys nicknamed) resurrection plants. These are those doubtful looking plants over in a corner that are reduced to anywhere from $4 to $2.
Years ago, the family used to bring their crippled or leprous plants to Gladys' mother for such miraculous recoveries. Since her passing though, we've all been pretty much on our own, to figure plant life out. With time and experience (both good and bad) comes patience....and so we learned to care for the garden inhabitants on our own.
Now it appears that we have progressed to the point that we too are able to find and nurse back to health those type of plants once relegated to the family miracle worker. So these days along with our yearly returners (as I call them), our garden receives new friends. I guess in the long run this is what Spring is really all about. New growth and new life - "resurrection" as Gladys would say.... "pass the antihistamine" as I would say.
That's my opinion and you're intitled to it.
