The Piper PA-28-181 is a single-engine, four-seat, unpressurized aircraft.
In humid conditions, it is subject to carburetor icing.

Carburator icing is most common when the temperature is relatively warm. Evaporation of the gas in the carburator causes a temperature drop of about 40 degrees, so a humid condition with a temperature around 60 degrees is the worst.

However, because of details of the installation of its Lycoming engine the Cherokee (PA28) usually does not have the carb ice problem. But, it can happen.

Yeah it can happen and that is exactly why gliding distance should be maintained once in the traffic pattern.I vote for landing short in the dark.

Private aviation is the most dangerous mode of transportation in the world period!! That is clearly and repeatedly stated the the NTSB's statistics and website. However, ONLY wealthy people own airplanes, and they continue to endanger the lives of those innocent people inside their own homes (those average folks, who don't matter)- all for their own amusement. No, I do NOT care if pilots and/or their passengers die in fiery crashes. They exercise their god-given right to choose when they place their lives at risk. But, the rights of innocent American citizens to choose what level of danger they and their family should be forced to endure is TAKEN AWAY BY THE COWARDS IN THE FAA, THE AVIATION INDUSTRY, AND THE U.S. CONGRESSPEOPLE who cater to these rich, cowardly terrorists!!!!! Innocent people on the ground are killed EVERY SINGLE DAY by these over-privileged cowards, but because such a small percentage of individuals are harmed and because the aviation-friendly media refuses to print the truth about these criminals, this is a case of horrific violations of our Constitution that goes largely unknown to the American public. Aviation is not only the most ridiculous waste of our petroleum resources, but it is the most unethical, criminal, unAmerican, and cowardly group in the world. However, many other nations have already realized what an affront to everything decent private aviation actually is, and even Communist China has done more to protect its private citizens from this abomination than the U.S. has done. Problem with the U.S. is that too many rich people fly airplanes, and those punks in Congress do their bidding, rather than protect the rights of innocent American citizens.

Oh? how many citizens die per day due to private aviation? How many citizens die per day due to drunk morons, I have no doubt that you fit well into the latter.

Defender guy... You obviously know nothing about people who fly small planes like the one that crashed. Many are far from rich. One fellow I knew was so poor that he didn't have a car, and had to hitch hike to the airport to fly his old plane which he bought back when he had money.

I was thinking the landing short thing was most likely the best answer until I looked at the video. It seems as if the airport is behind the plane, kinda blows the landing short theory. I don't think you can overshoot the runway as there are trees on the hanger end of the runway. Guess we will never know.

What about the explosives and bio-warfare ordnance they were bringing to Pittsfield? Were they recovered, or did Al Qaeda-in-the-Berkshires spirit them away?
Angelo sent them!
Good thing they did't try to land in on our ever expanding Pittsfields airport "no one would know " cause no one's there to check or collect any landing fees. When it's lunch-- it's lunch. "JUST BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME". Isn't that right Jimmy & (ward #4).That being said and intended for those clowns , i truly hope the P & P do all right.

What an idiot you are. I owned an airplane for 25 years and I am not rich and neither were 90% of the people I knew who flew their own planes. Facts are that planes like boats can be had for a wide range of money. You can still buy a plane for $25,000 ( I'll bet a bum like you thinks that is big money) or you can spend 25,ooo,ooo.You tell me how many of your so called innocent people on the ground are killed each year. I would say more people were killed today by drunk drivers than all year by being hit on the ground by an airplane. From your sickining rant on China I ask if are you a communist or just another leftwing liberal lunatic?

he's just an uninformed jerk. there's nothing left wing or iiberal about his idiotic rant. Civil aviation is much needed, very safe, and it knows no political philosophy. Don't take the bait and turn it into another battle in the culture wars. Thanks for being a citizen pilot, too - you are an asset to society.

You proved my point with your immature, reckless retort. Private aviation is proven by the National Transportation Safety Board to be the most dangerous and deadly mode of transportation in the world. Of course, I am sure punk pilots will refute government statistics. And, there are at least 20 innocent people on the ground killed/murdered by punk pilots every year. Another government statistic. But, for you punk pilots, I guess your obsession to try and be big men by flying over people's homes, a few innocent citizens murdered each year is meaningless.

Even one innocent person is far too many for any intelligent, mature human being. But, then, that excuses all private pilots, doesn't it?

You're full of crap. Cite your sources, please.
Better yet, since we're halfway through the year, start listing names of this year's 'murder-from-the-sky victims.'

I really hope you never need to fly GA. GA is an asset no matter how you look at it. Hope you never need a ride by care flight, angel flight, or others. If you do I hope critical life saving services are denied to you.

The childish, immature punks who fly personal aircraft don't deserve the time it would take for me to list the murders committed by their cowardly peers. However, just to see what Joe "faggot" Pilot has to say, there was an innocent man jogging along a beach in Hilton Head, SC recently, and he was mowed down from behind by a murderous single-engine aircraft. He was a husband and a father, but his life was senselessly snuffed out by a filthy punk flying for his own amusement.

Come on Joe'! Justify this one single murder and tell me why you cowards should be allowed to continue flying your murderous, traitorous personal aircraft.

DC, you're still a few short of your quota for the first half of the year... How many have been run down by privately owned and operated automobiles in the last six months?
