I think this is just terrible .i hear parents say they are gonna wear the kids out with a leather belt because it didnt hurt them growing up.have you ever took a good long hard look at a belt when you are not mad at your child and most parents double that belt and when they are mad hit hard,i think this is a disgrace and any parent that would do this needs some conceling, they are very angry and taking it out on their child.look in the eyes of your child there is no way i could ever hit a kid with a belt.the subject was brought up to me is why i am asking, how can a parent do this?

I have spanked my child with a belt, my parents spanked me & my siblings with a belt and we're all the better for that reason. My parents cared about morals, respect, reputation and behavior. At my parents house NO child disrespected any adult, unlike in todays times, NO adult beat a child, unlike todays times. There was no threats of beating a child if they did disrespect an adult, because parents TAUGHT their kids to have respect for others and to have self respect. In this day and time I feel the parents let the kids take the control from them, parents obey the child, that's just not right. I feel that's what the problem with so many kids today being disrespectful and so misbehaved. There is a difference between being spoiled and letting the child have control of the parents life.
This is my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just don't disrespect me if yours is different from mine.
I personally think they should bring paddling back into the schools, no need for parental permission, it should be a rule.

Parents taht discipline their children are the ones that raise up children to be productive adults. The ones that let them run like little brats all over the palce are the ones that make up the jails. Follow the family lives of both and see the trend.

I'm thinking that "thinking" doesn't have children...if they do, they are probably spoiled little brats who sass and make faces when told to do something. I was whipped as a child, and I'm a much better person for it. My Daddy whipped me one time with his belt, and believe me, I didn't sit around and say or think "Boy, I hate my Daddy for that", I just thought "Dang, I'd better not do that again."

I agree. I don't have children yet, but my father wasn't afraid to discipline me, and that made me the man I am today.

I think people are confusing "discipline" with "hitting". I do agree that at times a small smack on the butt can get the poiint across, but I do NOT believe in hitting kids (or anyone) with belts. With my children, all it took was a look from me to get the point across. They are well behaved, respectful (toward me and others), and productive citizens. People who have to use implements to "discipline" are Neanderthans. Just my opinion.....

I don't think tools(belt, wooden spoon, switch from the tree) for discipline are needed either. Nothing wrong with a smack from the hand across the rear if the child doesn't abide with time outs and punishments, like taking away something they treasure or look forward to. Imagine what it would be like if you had a person 10x's your size coming at you with a belt.

this is in reply to justmary, i think if someone 10x's my size came at me with a belt they would have my undivided attention. you know what General McArthur said about the enemy? it goes for kids too. When you got them by the balls, their hearts and minds follow....so if it takes a limb off a tree or a good leather belt to get their attention, then you gotta do what you gotta do. Look at all the misfits running around today with their pants on the ground, piercings all over their faces and ears and other places, no dress codes whatsoever, hey, our system is not working. HELLO THERE....like Obama said, we need CHANGE...

Like anything that idiot says means a hill o beans to me. Let's not go there. This thread is about whipping children, not Obama. I raised 3 productive loving children without beating them with a belt. They in turn have loving children. I had a wonderful life with my children as they grew to become adults, and I still enjoy them and their children.

I couldn't have said it better myself... I'm sure yur children are very respectful kids and. I'd say they'll grow up to be decent people. If there were more parents like you maybe we wouldn't have 15 year old girls taking their babies to school and 13 year old kids in rehab!!! Totally the parents fault!!

When I was growing up I was whipped with a belt, switch, leather strap or what ever my folks had handy. it didnt hrut me and Im a better person for it today. When I was raising my kids I used the belt or ping pong paddle and Im very proud of the way theyve turned out. A big problem with todays kids is they know the punishment is only goign to be mild so who cares. A good old fashioned out behind the barn might have saved that child from the drugs going on today. Even the bible says if you spare the rod you spoil the child.I do not believe in child abuse and would be the first to kick someones behind I caught doing it but anyone who refuses to disipline thier kids and let them run wild or be brats needs a belt took to thier own butt. I simply detest parents of bratty kids who are loud, ill mannered, have no respect for the parents or any grownups. If you plan to raise a brat keep it at home and dont push it on the public, after all a brat is a reflection on you! Care enough for that child to raise it right and teach it right and to respect others. If it means a paddling then so be it.

I dont think spanking a child is right.it just looks like a grown adult bullying a child it just is not right ,if u would teach your child from the cradle to respect you and not let your child get out of hand, unless you let it disrespect you and then one day you decide u are tired of this and start beating the shit out of it with a belt.its the parents fault u do not beat your child with a belt and yes that is beating.

one of my best friends they have taken and are raising there grandkids. social service told them not to smack them that is a form of child abuse. but yet the parnets got away with it beating now with a belt in the face and on the back. i don't like a belt cause it can leaves bruises and weels on the ass. but that what that fat but is for. but there are ways of going about to displine them with out even touching them. making them write or stand in the corner. but my parents did displine me not with a belt by in a kind and loving way and yes you start when they are small cause when they get to a age that they start knowing how to push buttons. then the game is one. god bless who do love and take care of the kids.

I totally agree with dicipline, but there is a fine line between dicipline and abuse.. I spank my childern when and only when everything else has failed and when I do spank them its w my hand. It is an absolute shame for any parent to pick up a belt, wooden spoon or whatever they can get and hit their child w it. My children arent perfect actually they are quite spoiled but they are very respectful. It doesnt take hitting or beating them w stuff to teach them and if it does you obviously have no control over your childern.
