Is anyone else having trouble with Windstream DSL internet service? My internet only works during daytime hours, Monday thru Friday, and starts giving me trouble after about 4:30 in evenings and entire weekends. I have called and called and people on the phone are of no help at all. They keep telling me someone is coming to my house but only one time has someone showed up and they replaced modem which helped for a few days. Internet keeps kicking me off to the point you can't even get on it because it would/has take up to an hour just to view a single page article, if it can even stay open this long. I also have a laptop that is having problems with wireless connection - for which Windstream tells me my "card" must have gone bad, which I find to be an odd coincidence that this wireless problem occurred at the same time I started having problems overall. It's really hard for me to believe the poor quality customer service over the phone.

I have also been experiencing the same problems with my Windstream service. I also replaced the modem but didn't help. I've checked out my computer for any viruses or problems, everythings fine on my end. Sad to say but my dial up service I once had was at least dependable, even though it was slow.

I live off of 1910. Mine has been under 1mb the last few days. It's killing my netflix. I've seen a windstream truck at our main terminal 2 days in a row. I might stop next time.

Mine has been working great for a while. I had that problem last year, where certain times of the day it would work better but not great. It would keep clicking off and on. They kept replacing the modem. Finally after about the fourth trip out here they replaced the line outside to the poles, and that fixed the problem. It has alot to do who comes to work on your problem, the one that finally fixed it was someone that normally does not work in the Grayson area.

I had windstream but switched to suddenlink. Suddenlink is so much better. It isn't hooked up to a phone line so if your phone is out you will still have service. I have a pretty fast speed. Once before I switched from suddenlink to windstream, then decided to go back to them. It only costs about $36.00 a month for service. Good luck with windstream, I am going to start using my cell instead of landline due to outages and price.

I have had no problems with service people that come out to home - that has only happened once so far. It seems customer service via phone is where I am running into a lot of problems convincing them there is a problem and they always want to do troubleshooting with resetting connection. I've done this too many times and refuse to do it any more. Problem isn't as simple as a reset.

Is Suddenlink DSL available in Grayson? You don't have to be a cable customer, do you? I didn't think there was anything else available but dial-up or Hughesnet (which I hear is a joke). So I can get DSL through another company without having to subscribe to cable? good....

Yes you should be able to get it. I do not have cable. You can get it in a bundle with the cable but I chose not to. Personally I like suddenlink the best.

This is the first trouble we've had.

I work for frontier in WV doing similar work so I'm cool with outages. They're inevitable when running anything on copper, and they make me a lot of OT money in the summer.:)

It's working now. Just got a call from Windstream that someone stole a cable. She didn't say for the copper, but I'm guess it was for the copper. Why else would you steal a cable?

I have the same issues... You can definitely tell when the kids are not in school. We can not even upgrade our speed because our windstream guy says the lines are so old they won't support that speed.

Dear Unhappy Windstream-er.
Face It... Windstream cuts service at peak times from those who use a lot of "space" on their network. It is so they can let the Not-So-Often users (kids home from school) have your DSL speeds. It can be easily discovered with simple Free download of a meter that guages your speeds. Once you find out that $50 per month is paying for $5.00 worth of Internet - they will stop. Once you complain - they will stop. Once they figure out YOU figured it out - they will stop for a short while. Then they start back up again. It really gets bad after a year of service. That's when they send someone out, exchange your modem, charge you another $50 for a new modem & a service call ($89.99). Then it starts all over again. The PRIMARY PROBLEM ?? Windstream usually only operates in areas others do not - So you're Screwed. Enjoy Windstream - The Company that flies by your service like a stream in the Wind. And charges you for Dial Up while you get a bill for DSL.

Windstream - formerly Alltel - deals primarily in rural areas where AT&T and Cable does not reach. So they screw their customers by cutting back on your Pre-Paid service. The longer you have Windstream - the worse it gets. It goes from simple problems with connections to speeds that resemble old Dial Up Windows ME. It isn't your computer that is flawed. Windstream knows people that live in rural areas don't have the access to facilities as Town Folk do. So they screw you by cutting back on your service. If you have X-Gbs per month -they cut it back so they can share YOUR rates with other purchasers - thereby making that much more CASH on the side. And since it is all but detectable - who's to say? Windstream has you by the nuts until AT&T (a much better service) appears. But I wouldn't hold your breath.
