We have now got a new multi million $ fire pt. and police station. So now our GPD can go catch all the dopeheads when they get old enough to use or sell. But what are they doing to help tech the youth about drugs or giving them things to do so they don't turn to drugs. Why couldn't our great public officials and the people running this town shave a bit off these overly funded places and build a small youth ctr or something for our youth. They have nothing, they just wait for them to grow up and turn to drugs (because they are bored) instead of trying to prevent the problem. When I was younger we had the pool and ball courts for summer days and we had pool halls and the bowling alley where everyone hung out and had dun. Now they have NOTHING. Its really sad, wouldn't it be smarter to prevent a problem instead of letting it spiral out of control the way they have?

I am very glad to see a topic like this started. Perhaps a decision maker or someone with the means and knowledge to make something happen will read this if it gets a good response and decide to change things.

Thats the reason I started it. Maybe for once something good can come from this site other than a way to bash people. I have children from teens to toddlers, this subject is something I think about alot and get very frustrated about. Our public officials are not trying to help make the very people who will run this place one day turn out to be pruductive drug free citizens. It sickens me to be honest!!! Thank you for your support!

Although there could be more recreational things to do, kids have freewill, they need to be taught at home or by loved ones to have goals, and if they are to be reached....you can't take a chance on getting hooked. Just say no! Show them peoples lives that are wasted, they have nothing, lost their kids, and are a burden on society. Most parents think if their lives are good enough for themselves....then it's good enough for their kids. Some do drugs with their kids ! Push them in school, when they do good it gives them pride. This will enable them to have pride and dignity in their life. And actually care what happens in the future.

Yeah I guess we could just wait and see if the problem corrects itself. There are a lot of good parents out there of once good students or good workers wondering where they went wrong. So many in fact that they have counseling for the parents of addicts, and I doubt the ones that do drugs with their kids ever really attend. Put the same stuff out there and the results will repeat themselves, why not leave a topic open that isn't in a round about way placing blame and see what ideas people come up to maybe change things?

So....an activity center will keep kids off drugs ? It would just give them a place to sell and get them. Let's be realistic. They don't do drugs because they are bored.

I disagree with you, if they have a place they can start going to at a young age and grow up there it can have a great impact on them. You sound like more of the problem then the solution. I have the most straight edge parents that I have ever met. Never has as much as a traffic ticket and I have never seen either one with alchohol or tobacco, not to mention they have never even said a curse word. They taught all of us great values and for the most part it worked because all of the older ones turned out great! We all had productive things to do with our time, but my younger brother wasn't so lucky. B y the time he was old enough to have friends and go out and have fun there was nothing to do anymore and soon he was hooked on drugs. He was taught the same as the rest of us at home, the difference was society. I for one would like to try something different in the community instead of sitting back and waiting for the so called bad seeds to do whats wrong.

I'm all for keeping kids and adults off of drugs......Whatever it takes. Just saying..... their surroundings, and friends, have a lot of impact and influence on their lives. It's hard to control these internal factors that play vital roles.

Thats exactly what I am saying, thats why I believe if they have a positive place to spend the time where they are normally bored it would be alot better for them and give them more of a chance.

It may not keep every kid off drug's,but even one kid saved is a kid saved. How would you feel if that one kid was your kid? OR ARE YOU A DEALER?

That free will does no good if there's nothing to choose from, does it?
You're assuming every parent will just do what you say they should do. Too many parents are messed up themselves because they had nothing to use that free will on, except the influence of other kids.
In a perfect world ,what you suggest would work. This is no perfect world, and we have our own government working against us.

They need a positive place to go outside of the home. It doesnt always matter how well you are taught at home or how good of people you parents are. My parents raised us great with strongs morals and values, however my brother fell in with the wrong crowd and that was it. But if they have soemthing positive and costructive to do with their free time then maybe just maybe they have a better chance.

Sorry, i don't mean to sound negative. The drug problem would be brought in to any kind of recreational center they would provide for our children.needless to say, there is no hope in this town until the Dr's are put out of the so called pain clinics that are run so freely!I should know because sad to say i have grown kids in there fortys as well as grandchildren that are Addicts!!! I know longer know my kids and havent since there addiction has took over there souls.

My God!! Where this child's parents! They should be jailed for life. It's same as killing their daughter.
