Carter co. Jailer R.W. Boggs has requested the Fiscal Court bring in a professional consultant to suggest how the local detention center could change from a non- profit to a for-profit status. Boggs made the proposal at this months monthly Fiscal Court meeting but there was no indication whether the request will be honored. Boggs also asked the court to transfer $3,500 to a training fund, but the request failed on a 3-2 vote. Judge Wallace gave Boggs a print out of expenses that he says shows the Detention Center costs,$7,712.25 per day to operate. Judge Wallace says that even if all 144 beds were taken by federal prisoners at $42 per day, the income total would total,$6,048.00, which is still short of daily expenses. Boggs said he would look into the figures and in another request said he could bring in jailers who are operating profitable jails, something that isn't happening in Carter Co.. Magistrate Brad Brammell questioned the court not taking tinto consideration Bogg's requests. In other matters, the Court let stand the action from last fall that dissolved the Carter Co. Tactical Search and Rescue organization. The Court ordered Roger Haney to return equipment to county. The Fiscal Court voted 4-1

R.W. always has some get rich quick scam brewing, and it is no surprise that he would bring that same mentality to the jail. Based on his past track record, the fiscal court would be wise to keep denying his money making schemes and try to keep him focused on running the jail as efficiently as possible.
