I think they should ban swimming and jumping off the ciff altogether. if they get got the should get a big fine and jail time. it would end the drowning all together.

It has been banned and fines are given out to violators. But the fact of the matter is the park rangers know they are and do nothing about it.

They have no blood on their hands, but the blame where it lies, on their own doorstep. We are Americans and have the right to free choice. Someone chose to break the law and jump, same as some break the law by speeding, drinking and driving, texting while driving, smoking pot, shoplifting, etc. etc. etc.

a lot of people dont even know its against the law to cliff jump there no signs are posted saying no jumping or danger ....no park rangers stopping violators when caught..they are liable simply by not upholding the law that was to protect the public from these dangers.

grouchy grandma dont you know if you are stopped in a road check and they find that you are drunk they must arrest you for your safety and those around you and if they let you go they can be held liable for any damages...your argument is flawed GG

You make a valid point. The cliffs should be posted as "no jumping or diving" They should try to monitor the cliffs and enforce the rules but the only person hurt here is the jumper, no one else was inadvertently injured. My point being that the officials that are to monitor that area are not responsible for the actions taken by another person that made the choice to jump. I know that every available person in conservation or lake patrol is on the lookout for people that can cause injury to others. Say unlawful fires that can be devastating to the whole area if they get out of control.
I empathize with the friends and family, I really do. I don't know that the blame should be placed on the lake staff because they didn't stop someone from jumping. Divers and others are rising their lives now looking for him.

Grouchy granny-in your mind, if u have one, u need to put your child or grandchild in place of this young man. Only then would u understand-but maybe u don't love your own kids or grandchildren like this young man was loved. If it was your child or grandchild would u have said what u did? If so, u truly r a stupid, uncompassionate granny!

I think you all need to close your mouths and open your hearts. No matter how it happened the fact still remains that someone lost their life. He didn't committ suicide, he was out trying to enjoy the summer vacation he got from school and lost his life. He has left alot of people that loved him dearly and all you all can do is find somewhere to put blame. Well how about you stop and pray.

They have been posted, time and time again, and given citations. At least they were 5 or 6 years ago. People keep taking them down.
The Corps Of Eng isn't allotted enough money to put Rangers on duty at each site 24 -7. They are lucky to have one and maybe one collage student to help during the summer. The student is not allowed to go out in the boat alone or drive it.
I have seen the rangers cut ropes down, and by evening, there would be a rope hanging from one of the bridges. This is the way it's been for years.
I hear management out there has changed and things are not as strict as they used to be a few years ago. I know it used to be
water patrol agents had to check the lake several times a day, but all jumpers will do is hear the boat coming and stop the activity till they pass.

Must be some democrats in this thread, blame someone else for someones stupid decision. If you jump off a 50 foot cliff, youre taking a chance on dying. Pretty simple. No one is to blame except for the person that decided to jump. Im sure no one twisted his arm and made him jump. We jumped off that cliff everyday in the summer when I was a kid. We knew you could get hurt but we did it anyway. Thats part of the thrill. I hate that his family had to lose him and Im sure he was loved, but you cant blame people for someones own decision. And its not the same as finding someone drunk in a road check cause in that case they are putting innocent lives in danger. This cat chose to risk it by jumping and that is who takes 100% of the blame here. Hope they are able to recover his body and give his family closure, but put the blame on the person that deserves it.
