I am no fool; I know if I am to win the election and make it to Lansing I am going to have to pull a rabbit out of my hat.
The only way anyone gets elected to office is money, itís sad but itís a fact.
I have tried to get every newspaper in the 106th district to run an editorial or story on my announcement to run for office but they have not printed one single word.
Now, if I threw a few thousand dollars out they would be flocking around me like stink on shit to put it bluntly.

Keep in mind I am not asking for money, like me most of you are working day to day trying to make ends meet and I refuse to ask for money.
The money machine can be beaten if the voters pull together and work against it but it is no easy task.
The biggest reason anyone wins an election for State Representative is name recognition. I know you are saying to yourself ďwait a minute I thought you said money was the only way to get elected, is this guy nuts?Ē

The fact is money is what buys the name recognition, when most people go to the polls they arenít even thinking about who they will vote for as State Representative.
In fact most people donít know the name of our current representative.
Usually when it comes to voting for State Representative most people look at the names and either vote for their party or just vote for the name they have heard the most.

The only people that know who they are voting for when it comes down to it are the people and business who have something to gain by getting that person elected, and it is mostly in order to have a puppet in office that in their minds owe them something.

You can bet that Matthew Gillard (our current State Rep.) has already picked his successor and he will be behind the scenes pumping money and influence to get his pal elected who ever it is.
You can bet that there will be a favor owed to Mr. Gillard if his cohort gets elected.

Why donít people know who their State Rep is?
Because when is the last time Matthew Gillard has asked you how he should vote when it comes to raising your taxes or any other issue?
I know he has never asked me, and even when I contact his office to ask how he stands on an issue I donít get an answer, not even a form letter from a staff memberís computer.
I had to start calling his office two times a day every day for three days in a row to get him to tell me he would look into the Industrial Hemp issue after he is finished with next years budget.

A budget in which he tried to black mail other State Representatives into voting for a tax hike on the Michigan people.

Tell me is that representing us? Is that what he was elected to do? I think not.

The job title is in the name, a State Representativeís job is to represent the people of his/her district and vote on the issues as his/her constituents wish him/her to.

At this time I am the front runner for the office but thatís only because I am the only one in the race, once Gillardís cohort enters the race it will be whole new ball game.
The newspapers are going to start printing stories about the new candidate as if he is the 8th wonder of the world and you will see signs and bumper stickers at every corner.

As for me you might see my name in small print somewhere at the bottom of the last page.

It all comes down to this; if you want another Matthew Gillard in office do nothing.
But, if you want someone who will truly represent the 106th district of Michigan and vote on the issues by the wishes of the constituentís then help me.

It doesnít take money, it only take you the people to make it happen.

Your support and willingness to speak out and get everyone else to do the same can beat the money machine.

Thank you for your time,
Everett Swift
