These people are not espousing or teaching or requiring any religious belief; they are acknowledging a supreme being. If atheists don't want that let them protect themselves with no help from anyone who looks to a God or Lord. Why should the majority bow to the minority once again until there is nothing left. We already took God and morality out of schools and now are reaping the results. Since "we" did that maybe God does not want to protect us anyway, but no harm asking.

Nothing wrong in helping God out of a territory where he is not supposed to be...but I'm definitely in favour of doing that in the most gently way possible. A court case in the U.S. seems a very doubtful method - for obvious reasons.

Does it really matter if one believes in a spiritual being helping? Does it matter if one believes in a force that can not be seen that does bring some sort of comfort to what is many? So what if people believe in God. This country was built and formed with many beliefs, do not make one belief predominate, do not take that choice away. To many are out in the world at this time claiming that they are the only ones who are right, maybe, just maybe it is not just one who is right, but all. If our founding fathers had the same mentality of being so single minded and saying that there shall be no choice in this country, we would not be the United States of America. Instead of using up valuable time and effort to try to make such a big deal about wording and how others feel, use that same energy and money to help others and the rest of this country. Does it really matter?

Just curious how belief in a supreme being is hurting a single soul? They dont have to pray if they dont believe. They dont have to acknowledge God if they dont want to. We are not forcing them to do that. I mean seriously, some people believe there is an Easter Bunny and that Santa is real. Are we gonna ban them also?
Geesh...I feel like we have a freedom to believe just like they have the freedom to not. It kinda seems like they want everything to go their way or they stomp, cry, pout, and threaten lawsuit if they dont get it. Its like they demand to be right or win and it is the most horrible thing ever if they dont. IMHO...all these little special interest groups and the ACLU are one of the problems with this country. They are nothing but contentious people who cant leave well enough alone.

Most Atheists, like myself, are fine with people having religion, having the freedom to choose which one to follow, and have no issue with religious displays on private property. No one's asking that churches be demolished.
Government should remain secular and the fight to keep religion out of it is one that should be taken seriously. Some Christians agree completely on this.
Imagine if Islam became the dominant religion in the US, and the courthouses were displaying verses from the Koran. You might feel a lot differently if that were the case.
It's about protecting the freedoms of everyone, not throwing childish tantrums.

Does God have a permit to carry a weapon?
Or is he using lightening bolts?

Sorry...couldn't resist.

And for the fellow who asked about God being on passport...well, we're not that tolerant of illegal aliens anymore...better be valid or he's outta here. In case he hasn't noticed, we have no problem kicking people named Jesus outta the country. He ain't safe either.

Oops, couldn't resist again...:)

We have stood by to long and allowed the few intimidate the majority. They say the government should not be involved with church in any manner, including words on a statement. They have not attacked the insurance industry about their "act of God" clause. Why? Rev. Riner, they can remove any words from any where, but they can not take them from our heart. File a lawsuit stating, the beleivers in God will no longer war or anything contrary to our beliefs with our tax dollars. Let's see how far this goes. Thank you, Rev.Eugene Baker (revebaker@sbcglobal.net) I will not hide from my enemies.

We in GODS state of West virginia are having the same problem with the atheists.
they have removed the nativity scene from school property
they have stopped the childrens christmas plays and partys are children cannot pray in school without offending
my grandaughter who is eleven has taken offense to this and still says her prayer because it is her right for freedom of religion
the atheists say we are interfering with there right but they are also interfering with our right for freedom of religion because thats what this country was founded on
i wish to find a lawyer who will stand up and fight for our freedom to practice christianity
they cansue us for there right so why cant we sue them for our right
KENTUCKY the christians of WEST VIRGINIA ARE BEHIND YOU
AND MAY OUR GOD KEEP AND BLESS YOU AND MAY ARE PATH AND STRENGTH BE STRONG AS OUR GOD LEADS US

So replace 'act of God' with 'force of nature' and be done with that insurance clause too.
Cos I can't sue God when I get certain damages the insurance company won't pay for.

Atheists should adopt an attitude of tolerance for the majority. In a democratic society the majority governs. Its a cut, dried and clear issue.

Move to Wyoming where there are only 300,000 residents. The atheists would have a better than average of becoming the majority. Or try Alaska. Now thats a place for growth.

The reason that the atheists want God out of the anti-terrorist law is because ATHEISTS ARE THE TERRORISTS.

The reason that God bothers the atheists is because they want no restrictions on sinning. They love sin and love sinning and God puts a damper on their freedoms to sin. Christians are happier people than atheists because Christians aren't living in fear any longer. Atheists are terrified.

Great idea. In fact, putting all the atheists in Wyoming would probably only double the population there.

It's not your "belief in a supreme being" that is hurting anyone. Feel free to believe in whatever you choose to, or not believe. Those who don't share your belief however, and yet are obliged under this law to pay to advertise your beliefs with their tax dollars quite understandably find the law offensive.

You state that "They dont have to pray if they dont believe", and I'd certainly agree with that -and I'd add that it's pretty sporting of you to permit individuals to worship or not as they choose.

But then you go on to say "They dont have to acknowledge God if they dont want to. We are not forcing them to do that." The article discusses a law that involves the use of taxpayer money to acknowledge your God through training, educational materials and a plaque. Please note the third paragraph in the article, reprinted here for reference:

"Of particular concern is a 2006 clause requiring the Office of Homeland Security to post a plaque that says the safety and security of the state "cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon almighty God" and to stress that fact through training and educational materials."

Not all taxpayers believe in your God, and through this law all taxpayers are in fact being forced to acknowledge your God with their taxpayer dollars. It is clearly not "freedom of religion" when non-believers are forced to pick up the tab for religion-based educational materials. Would you feel comfortable with a law that spent your tax dollars to promote atheism?

Those interested in religious education should of course feel free to pursue it - on their own dime.

Um... is that why they were praying and screaming "God is great" as they crashed planes into our buildings?

BTW, thanks for calling millions of your fellow citizens "TERRORISTS" simply because they don't share your beliefs.

Let me correct your post for you: THE TERRORISTS WERE RELIGIOUS NUTS WHO THINK ONLY THEIR BELIEFS ARE CORRECT.
