Amanda you are SOOOOO correct,,if a person cannot be awake when there children are,, then my question is why,, I have 5 kids 2 still at home and 4 beautifull grand chrildren,, apples of my eye, at public outings i watch the grandkids so the parents get breaks,, when asked i babysit.. so the parents can rest,, and all the kids parents except my on daughter work and not one of my kids doesnt know what there kids are into at any given time,,and why is that ? because they love and care for the life's they brought into the world... I just happen to be a grand parent who would do anything in my power to keep my kids and grand kids safe.. but i guess there are people that just dont give a hoot about there kids |

My husband and I were driving in the country today and came upon a group of 4 children riding their bicycles down the road. Behind them was a mini van with 2 adult women following with their flashers on so no one hit the children. Probably their mothers. I thought that was so responsible, how cute. I still can't figure out why the little darlings weren't wearing helmets and pads, but whatever. So anyway, we are tooling up the road (opposite side) and see these kids with concerned adults close behind. Lo and f'g behold a car comes whipping around the van and into our lane of traffic nearly causing a head on collision. We whipped it over to the ditch to avoid getting hit by an idiot. Those broads in the van may have been trying to keep their kids safe, but we were nearly killed, ffs!!! Next time, I hope they pack the kids and the bikes in/on the van and take them to one of several parks in our county with bike trails. It still psisses me off. |

Hi there! I'm really glad to see that some people actually agree with my opinion. As I said, if my kids are up, so am I!!! And I also wonder as you do what these "parents" are doing if they are too tired to watch their kids! I work for a living as well, and I'm a single mom (not by choice) and I am sometimes dog tired, so I grab myself a cup of coffee, or take the kids to the park...anything to re-energize myself. If all else fails, then I call my mom and dad or my best friend to see if they can take them off my hands for a bit to catch a couple ZZZZZ's. But, may I add, that usually only happens when I'm sick. I'm not saying that I deserve to be mother of the year...I am far from perfect. My point is, my 9-year-old has been to the emergency room ONCE!!! And that was because she had a strawberry mark on her cheek that she would scratch open, and it would bleed for hours. It was due to a medical condition, not neglect! Other than that, no stitches, no broken bones...Why, because I watched her like a hawk...Why, because that is my JOB as a mother!!! |

I STRONGLY BELEIVE WE MUST HEAR THE ENTIRE STORY BEFORE PASSING JUDGEMENT.KNOWING A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THIS STORY THEN MOST OF THE READERS EVER WILL I ASK OF YOU NOT TO JUDGE. I CAN SAY IT WAS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT AND THE PARENTS AREN'T AT FAULT, THEY ARE HURTING AND WISH THIS WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPEN. ITS SAD TO SAY WE CAN'T CHANGE THE PAST, BUT IF THEY COULD THEY WOULD.

Amanda,
I'm with you. When your kids are awake, you are awake, 100%, full attention! Yes, accidents happen. But an accident is not your child riding their bike on a roof! We all hope and pray that our kids are not injured in an accident. But, this one was preventable! Who "lives" on their roof? Who puts a fence on their roof? No one! Because your children are taught that the roof is not a play area and if there is access to a roof(the door to the 2nd floor roof) you child-proof it. If I had a 2 yr. old, that door would've been locked, barricaded, etc. Who does not know where their 2 yr old is at all times? My nephew is 2, and my sister, brother-in-law, babysitters, aunts, uncles, etc. know that he has to be watched every waking moment. My 89 yr. old grandmother babysits my 3 yr. old niece. That child knows NO going off the porch, NO going near the road, NO running near cars. Because she has been taught right from wrong. A 2 yr. old who is taught that a roof is NOT safe will fear the roof and not go out there. This poor baby was taught that the roof was a play area. There was a clothesline, skate board, and a tricycle on that roof! What part of parental responsibility is not evident? If you teach a child that the middle of a street is play area, guess where they will play? We cannot be perfect parents always. And I feel for and pray for this mother, but, a child playing on a roof is NOT acceptable, by any means. |

I'm glad you are up for parent of the year award, but look here......an 89 year old grandmother caring for a 3 year old child is a recipe for disaster. Simply because the way 3 year old brains are wired. Sure they know right from wrong, but every childs biological make up is comprised of "testing boundaries". Their social and emotional stages of development WILL insure that they WILL disobey or go against established rules just to test the consequences. In other words, if/when the 3 year old does something to test her boundaries, these same people are going to be on here condemning your nieces parents for irresponsibly leaving a 3 year old with an 89 year old. And rightly so. At 89, people die of natural causes alone. Then what? Totally unacceptable. Before judging others, perhaps a little self reflection is in order? |
