It would be great to understand just how much money to support schools is enough! Between city, county, state and education bureaucracies there is never enough money. The demands are endless, but for some amazing reason they don't seem to understand that our pockets are not limitless. None are taking measures to prioritize or acknowledge the money is running out. Vote NO on these perpetual piggish and selfish bonds. We can't afford anymore!!!!!

If passed, the funds would provide more than $155.5 million to 30 institutions of higher education.
THIRTY institutions? That's about 20 more than a state this size needs!

I don't know about the other bonds, but I use Branigan Library all the time and I completely support the library bond. Given how much the library saves me-internet subscription, new books-a few cents is definitely worth it.

So how close is clueless Ben Woods to retirement from NMSU?
Hasn't he socked away enough yet? He's the poster child for The Peter Principle on campus. Maybe we could use his fat salary to offset some of necessary library costs?
At least then, Woods indirectly would be contributing to the community he's plundered for years.

NMSU doesn't need any funding, it has plenty. Just remember that ungodly amount they gave the athletic department.

Why do we the taxpayers always hear that the schools need for us to pony up more money for their little pet projects, but you never hear what they are doing to save money and live within their budgets. Taking money from academics to finance the atheletics department does not qualify as fiscal responsibility. We the taxpayers must tighten up our belts and do without during these hard economic times and it is time for our schools to do the same.

What really irks me is when people say it won't affect your local taxes any. I've seen this point emphasized by another local print media outlet. That may be technically true in the short run, but it is blatantly disingenuous. There are still costs involved with borrowing money, and they have to be paid. By who? Taxpayers of course.

It's time to join El Paso and tell the schools "NO!" for once.

Fortunately for most of these witless cockroaches opposed to libraries, there are wives at home...with lots of friends.
All of these will vote "Yes" on the bonds for libraries and schools...and cancel out the "No" from the Jethro, Juan and Julio rednecks, racists and retards.
Ah, democracy is a splended thing. Grassroots work is done efficiently and quietly...and oh, boy, hold on Tea Baggers and GOPites.
The celebration won't be as big as you are thinking and spitting over!

Maybe you're just a tad insecure, though, huh? Just cowboy up. Not all can be well endowed and manly. Don't you worry. There's somebody who thinks you're just fine.

I started voting against municipal bond issues years ago when I noticed Las Cruces was all too itchy to build new schools and office buildings, then basically left the old ones to rot.(Sound familiar?)

Then when I was working at a unniversiy campus in New Mexico, there was millions of bond money for upgrading the golf course buildings and sprinkler system. Yet the money wasn't available to replace twenty-plus year old lab instrumentation no longer supported by the manufacturer, and I was forced to scounge parts off the WWW. That's when I stopped voting for educational bonds, too.

And upgrades for the senior centers? Forget it. I drove my mother to the senior center, and noted that an upcoming bond issue was to replace the kitchen equipmet at the facility. I knew the existing kitchen stuff was less than four years old, and looked new. That's when I also stopped voting for bonds for senior centers.

Yea - do you think I'll vote for a tax increase for more probable pork projects? Better bet against it.

Sara Waldrop, kiss my everloving round brown eye. If you would read the posts, if you can, i have no problems with libraries and such, but when a University gives 4 million dollars to a failing athletic department and then turns around and wants me to approve with my vote 155+ million for projects, they too can kiss my round brown eye.

Sorry, but you cannot have any more of my hard earned money until you can prove that you can control your spending.

No, I will not help make up deficits for a failing athletics program.

I find it offensive that you 'only want 11-bucks per $100-thousand of valuation'-- how many of these bond initiatives are you going to request until you are satisfied?

Well, you are already drunk on our money and this bartender is cutting you off.

How dare the university stand there like a common panhandler? Raising tuition at rates many times that of inflation and you still want more money?

Go to he11. Vote no on all bond measures until you prove yourselves to be fiscally responsible.

You go, Chief. I'd chip in my two cents but it'd only parrot all that you said.

Do you remember the hubbub the forum had over one of the OTHER bond measures up for a vote in November? I've done the legal research on the proponent's claims and found the entire matter to be bogus. There is NO regulatory authority in DC as the adherents claimed. That is, the law and regulations that exist are written explicitly for forms of emergency communication common at an earlier time.

More telling and troubling, the local entity that is appealing for our money has refused every request I have made to identify those authorities in law and regulation. So my informed vote on that issue will be NO as well. Loon-toon Jay will be mighty upset.

How are classes going?
