I just wanted to let Matt's Family know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. There is a lot of talk, saying Matt was speeding but I'm here to tell you I was outside sitting about 3 driveways down from where this has happened. Matt was not speeding. If you don't know that facts then you all need to keep your mouth shut. I also want you know I do not know Matt either. I drive down that road almost everyday. The tractors are always pulling out in front of you. They do not look. I think you need to look at this in a different way. What if this was you child? My prayers are with Matts family and with Cassies family.

People in this area will always be ignorant to the sportbike lifestyle. People fear what they dont understand. All walks of life enjoy riding sportbikes not just teenagers. Regardless, sportbikes have nothing to do with this tragedy. In defense of the rider he crashed infront of my best friends house while he was sitting out front. He was doing the SPEED LIMIT as per witnesses(my friend). The tractor operator was not paying attention and wasn't even turning into a drive but into a ditch for some reason. There was only a 18 ft skid mark not the 100ft mark that was reported. The tractor was huge. Any speed would have resulted in terrible injuries when one wheel of the tractor weighs probably 300lb. and the bike weighs 400lbs. He struck the engine right behind the front wheel. Can you say brick wall. Anyone who has the gull to condemn this poor kid for having the right to operate his licensed motorcycle on the road without prejudice is an arrogant, ignorant, selfish, heartless fool. To say that it is good that he didn't kill anyone else is also ignorant. How many motorcycle accidents result in injury to anyone but the rider. Education is the key to safe vehicle operation not fear. There are a lot more automobile drivers endangering people out there than your occasional motorcyclist. These are facts people, deal with it.
As for his family and the poor girl in the hospital, my prayers are with you.
As for the farmer, I've been dodging you guys for years and I hope this weighs heavy on your heart for the rest of your days.

Nice try - 18' of skid mark? It's more than likely because the poor kid wasn't paying attention. Your post was almost believable until you made that last sentence about the farmer & his family - you're an idiot!

How can someone say that a motorcycle has no business being on a country road? That is like saying cars shouldn't drive there either.

There are accidents where the rider is at fault and there are accidents where the other party is at fault. Sure there are riders who speed around, cut in and out of traffic, and cause accidents. But, there are even more people in cars not paying attention, pulling out in front of bikes and other cars, and causing a greater number of accidents than motorcyclists. Drivers need to learn to pay attention to what they are doing... driving. The same goes for anyone on farm equipment, a scooter, or a pedal bike.

As for this particular incident I can't say the farmer wasn't paying attention and it was his fault. What I can conclude from eye witnesses reports is it definitely wasn't the rider's fault though. It sure would be nice if the media would report the facts about how long the skid mark was then perhaps more people would not be blaming the rider. Course it also doesn't help that a friend said the rider liked speed. People see that and automatically assume he was speeding in this case. Perhaps it just comes down to poor timing that turned tragic.

Wow.. you have some Nerve!!! Where in the article did it state he was driving above the speed limit at the time of the accident?? Why is there a 80 yr old Man driving a farm equipment?? This is a sad time for the family of both...

Hey I know next time you want to send a text message, or look for some dumb ass cd, or when you drop your fone, PULL OFF THE ROAD!!!

Well, city boy- around these parts - being 80 and still driving a tractor is better than being 80 and pushing up daisies. From what I remember - this man has been on a tractor ever since they stopped using the horses. He may be old but he's not sitting still - it was an unfortunate accident leaving behind many tears. Old and young.

If the farmer has a valad drivers license then he had every right to be driving the tractor. If not then thats a different story. My heart felt sympathy's go out to the families of both. It will be a tough time for the families. To me it sounds like the road needs to be fixed in that area. Could have been anyone coming thru there at the time. I've never been down that particular road so I don't know if a car is any more visable than a motorcycle or if the farmer on the tractor should have seen him because he would be sitting up so high on it. Either way it doesn't matter. We can't go back in time and change it. Just make sure it doesn't happen to another family. If the roads dangerous there then it needs to be changed!

I've known Matt since probably kindergarden - I just want to say that Cassie and Matthew, and both friends and families are in my prayers everyday. Not a day will go by that I don't think of Matthew. I wish I could have gotten to say goodbye one last time - but I know he was truly happy, with Cassie. Everyone needs to stay together, and stay strong for Cassie - she's gonna need friends and family when she gets back.
Matt was an amazing person, and touched every life that he came into contact with, some way or another. I know he's watching out for all of us - that's what's keeping me strong. I hope and pray that comfort and relief comes soon for his family.- His little brother already looks and acts so much like Matt - at his funeral I couldn't help over seeing him and his friends giving high fives, reminds me of Matt, Aaron, Jeff, Barry, Adam and the countless other friends that Matt has had throughout the years. If he grows up to be like his older brother, it will be a blessing - and I know he will.
We'll miss you and love you always Matthew.
