We heard Sheriff Mike Hunt's wife was a crack head and got set to rehab. The sheriff needs to get the price of crack down like he did with his water bill.
He has also had some serious problems with his son and we have arrested his nephew several times in Aiken.

AIKEN, S.C. 2008 A North Augusta pastor has been accused of sexual assaults on a teenage girl that started 18 years ago.

Sheriff Michael Hunt says 69-year-old Rev. Lawrence Smith is charged with three counts each of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree; performing a lewd act on a child; and aggravated assault and battery.

The State newspaper of Columbia reported investigators arrested Smith at his home Thursday.

The sheriff's department says the incidents occurred between 1990 and 1995 at Smith's home and another home.

Hunt says there were other victims, some of whom have moved or do not want to cooperate.

The sheriff's office says Smith was pastor of Free Indeed Holiness Church.

Smith was held in the Aiken County jail.

Information from: The State,

Needless to say ALL of these false charges were dismissed by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor's Office as Sheriff Mike Hunt continues his track record of making false arrests in Aiken County.

Another case of false arrest in Aiken County

February 2011

A local chiropractor was arrested on false allegations he sexually assaulted two female patients at his Whiskey Road offices.

Maurice Shekeil Wallace, 34, of Aiken, was falsely charged with two counts of second-degree assault and battery.

He was arrested by Aiken Department of Public Safety officers in February 2011 at his Whiskey Road office, Spine Doctors of Aiken.

The so-called investigation had been under way since late last year.

Two women have come forward with allegations, police said.

The first woman to approach police, a 32-year-old from Augusta, met with investigators in late December 2010.

She alleged that "during the month of November," the suspect assaulted her at his office.

She contacted police on Dec. 28, 2010 according to incident reports.

In early 2011 another woman approached police with allegations.

According to Public Safety reports, the victim, a 25-year-old from Salley, said she was sexually assaulted by Wallace during the month of November 2010.

In early 2011 Wallace was released from the Aiken County detention center on a $5,000 bond.

Investigators will not comment on the incidents alleged.

All of these false arrest charges were dropped on July 14, 2011; however, for some reason the Aiken Standard once again failed to publish these fact.

did you know that Aiken has the highest rate of false arrests in South Carolina. Last year several black men were arrested for crimes and put in jail. In addition, their names were plastered all over the local newspaper - the Aiken Standard. After releasing on black boy who was arrested for robbing a burger king just because he was black, authorities said they made a mistake and the right suspect was just riding his bike by the other by as he was being arrested. In another case a local black business man was cleared after being falsely arrested and he had to beg the local newspaper to print an article clearing his name - needless to say this article was buried in the back pages of the paper.
Happens all the time in Aiken.

if a criminal defense lawyer in Aiken has never filed a law suit claiming false arrest they should not be retained to provide legal services to a criminal defendant. Be aware of these lawyers they are worthless and will only get you a plea bargain deal in Aiken.

Kirkland Case wrote:
Just look at the Stephanie Kirkland case. They arrested her for not one but THREE different occurrences of criminal sexual conduct with a minor (an extremely serious offense). She was only a 20 year old female who had a boyfriend at the time with a good reputation in the community. She was also working at Wings Place. As a matter of fact they made a big scene of it and arrested her at her place of employment. All of the charges were baseless and supported with absolutely no evidence whatsoever. A month or so later the solicitor dropped ALL the charges as law enforcement once again in Aiken rushed to judgement and just took the word of an alleged victim who was not at all credible. This happens all the time in Aiken because Sheriff Mike Hunt and his deputies are simply incompetent and power hungry. We had to get out of Aiken when Mike Hunt became sheriff. He's nothing more than a fool who loves to ruin people's lives and that of their family.
this is what you get when you elect an uneducated GED looser sheriff like Mike Hunt for sheriff. He doesn't understand that it takes admissible evidence to convict someone of a crime and all of the required elements must be present. This drunk redneck has given Aiken County a bad reputation with regard to stupid and corrupt law enforcement practice and performance.

We had to move out of Aiken because it got so bad. So many people were just getting arrested for nothing crimes, some for just walking down the street, the sheriff's deputies were being evaluated using a quota system for how many arrests they made. Just about every call they responded to they would try to find some reason to arrest somebody. There budget kept growing every year and outpaced the growth in population. The teenagers were getting arrested right and left with their futures being ruined for things like disorderly conduct at high school football games, or failure to obey law enforcement only to result in a 3 year misdemeanor record with a fine, which simply ruined their chance for college, etc. Once Sheriff Mike Hunt got in office it got really really bad and we just had to get ourselves and our children out of that hostile law enforcement environment. If you have teenagers, don't live in Aiken or do so at the risk of them getting marked with a nonsense no nothing criminal record at the hands of GED Sheriff Mike Hunt.
Mike Hunt is an idiot.
