During this past Tuesday night's Aiken County Council meeting to discuss the 2nd reading of the county budget, over 92 people attended. Residents from the tri-town disaster community, as well as Aiken and New Ellenton residents expressed their desire to see this funding spent directly in the disaster community. Also during this meeting, Council conceded, after 7 months of mostly trying to ignore public comments, that this funding should somehow benefit the Aiken County taxpayers as it relates to the disaster. There was no commitment from council to spend this funding in the disaster community, except for District 8 Councilman Willar Hightower. Residents need to attend the 3rd and FINAL reading of the budget to either be there in body or express their desire to see this funding spent as they see fit. If you aren't there, county council cannot know how you feel.
