Steve had a really hard time working for Mike Hunt after working under Howard Sellars administration. Howard knew the value of education and formal training. Steve was the supervisor of the training department with the sheriff's office. At one point in time Mike adjusted his budget to only support funding Steve's position without anyone else in the training department. That decision resulted in numerous complaints and a total lack of formal training in the sheriff's office other than attendant to the SC criminal justice academy for certification. After receiving numerous complaints and law suits Mike readjusted his budget and finally gave Steve some personnel to staff the training department. We don't blame him for getting away from Mike Hunt as soon as he could. The man just doesn't know how to run the sheriff's office effectively and in a competent manner.
