Hope everything's good with you Arnold. Go ahead and laugh, I've got to step in and help my husband hang some light fixtures at my dad's. My husband will probably tell me the power's off and to put some wires together and if I'm still alive after putting them together, he'll say, "Honey I was sure I had the power off." Wish me luck!!

Bacon. 1. The Reuters report apparently allocated the entire production costs to only those Volts s sold in the USA. Adjusting for that "oversight" would reduce the current losses per unit down to $40,000 from the Reuters reported losss of $49,000 per unit.
2. The Reuters report allocated the entire production costs just to the number produced so far (and only thos sold in the USA)and not over the entire production life of the model. As example , had that been done for just the first car produced, the losses per unit would have been around 2.3 billion dollars per unit.
GM accountants project a profit when figured over the entire production life of the model. I have no numbers to check the accuracy of that claim, but I would expect it to be a reasonable projection based on the preliminary sales numbers.
Since the USA (taxpayers)are major stockholders, it would be in our best interest if that turns out to be true. Obviously, the republikan campaign against the volt product is aimed a politically discrediting actions taken by the Obama administration as evidenced by th obviously fake accounting given in the Reuters report. It could easily turn out that the volt product is a looser over all, especially if the efforts of republikans continues. It just seems stupid to me to shoot ourselves in the foot as stockholders in a product and try to make it a loss just for purile political purosed. My feeling is that if the volt is a good product, it will make money. If no, it will lose money as have many other automotive products past present and future.

TSF, I knew if anybody would do the math you would. I feel better knowing that only $40,000 is being lost on the sale of each volt versus $49,000. I'm sorry but losing $40,000 on a the sale of one car is more than I can wrap my head around. I found many sites absent of Reuters that report the same information. I don't know if Reuters has a dog in this fight or not, but GM has really not attempted to clear up the disemination(?) of this being an untruth. It seems if this were so, they would have gotten the message out.

When I go back to some of the sites with numbers you need, you can do the breakdown and then break it down to me in simpler terms.

I don't think a Chevy Volt is a bad idea, but right now in our economy,$40,000 for a car that really hasn't had all the kinks worked out is a high risk as far as I'm concerned, or at least it is for me personally. We don't have automobile payments at our house and I'd like to keep it that way for a while.

I'm going to invest my money and it'll be in real estate.

BTW, I did my crude breakdown last night of illegals being deported and those that are still here illegally. How did I do? It's probably a couple pages back. I figured you would have hit me with both guns blazing if I was too bad off the mark.

Silver, I know how to you can lose a village helping to raise a child quickly. My daughter had colic for NINE LONG MONTHS and I'm certain the only people that could have stood that kind of screaming would be deaf people and I mean no disrespect.

I wish the village would have helped me pay for her private school tuition, but that has paid for itself now. School vouchers are not a bad idea, especially after those kids in Chicago missed almost two weeks of school because of the teachers being on strike. I guess the village of school teachers didn't care that much about helping raise a child when it came down to the almighty dollar.

I am sorry your daughter had colic. I am certain that can try anyones patience.

I do think Mike's notion of the village help raises children is perposterous. Raising my children was my wife and I responsibility. No one elses. And none of my children were an "accident" as my mom used to say when she was around.

Not sure why the Mayor of Chicago had a problem with the teachers striking. Democrats support unions. I guess those teachers making over 70k a year it is tough to justify more entitlements.

Silver, that is laugh out loud funny. I thought my mom was the only one that used to say "oh honey she had an accident" or "she made a mistake." I'm not dead with age but sex was just not discussed at our house back then. Lord knows I was afraid if I fell down and got hurt I'd have a baby or if I made a mistake on something I'd have a baby.

I know what Mike is saying about it takes a village to raise a child and yes, Hillary made that into a book didn't she? What the heck did she know about raising a child? I'm certain between she and Bill aspiring to rise in the rank of politics, she didn't do it with a baby on her hip. Not in those days. I'm certain it took nannies, school teachers, tutors, etc to raise her child. I'm not saying she's a bad mother by any means, but frankly I felt she was out of touch because she thought it took everyone but the parents to raise a child. My husband and I raised my daughter, taught her good moral values, didn't rely on others to take her to all the "trappings" of being involved socially, never used a babysitter, did her homework with her and WE put he to bed at night and she's turned out to be a good, productive citizen.

About the strike by the teachers in Chicago. I think about the day before they came to an agreement, the union and teachers were starting to notice the parents weren't starting to have that loving feeling for them anymore. There's nothing worse than an angry mob of parents.

I see you continue to fall for the propaganda. The volt will become profitable as more and more are produced. Very few manufactured products make money on the first unit produced or even the 10,000 th unit produced because of the cost of production equipment, production facilities , start up etc. It would make more sense just to continue the baseless other claims (muslim, socialist, etc.) because those clais will not damage your product and lose your money. This just illustrates another republikan willingnes to damage our economy, our people , our nation in order to gain a minor political point.

I'm confused.Teachers can't strike in Texas Texas is a right to work state.Teacher pay raises are connected to how well students perform. That's capitalism at it's finest in my opinion.I think Chicago teachers want a35 percent pay hike.Wow! Man I worked 20 years at the post office and we never asked for anything like that.

TSF, you don't see me falling for any propaganda. The fact that for a while Chevy Volts caught on fire and that's why I really read more about the Volt. That's when I read about the cost to produce vs. the cost to purchase. Are you saying the facts you quoted and that I supplied are incorrect and somehow you've made the stretch this is for political gain? I'm sorry, were only the Repulbican taxpayers' money used for the GM bailout and now we feel the need to slander the Volt because we're getting screwed over and know it? Actually, all you demokrats should be buying volts as we speak considering they're a real steal just about 50% off. It would show us republicans that you'll buy a volt just to how us you don't fall for propaganda.
