<quoted text>I worked there too. And that place is in no way filthy! So strict it was a pain in the azz. Brenda is a great person who has done alot for that community.
Brenda would do anything for any of her employees. she uses a tough love standpoint and when she gets f*cked over by almost all of them, all of the time she gives them the benefit of the doubt and let's them have another chance. sure she is stressed alot but she respects everyone who works for her.

Every ambitious, successful person has haters, Mitt Romney being a prominent example, recently... Brenda has done remarkably well with her little restaurant and has made many positive contributions to her community. As meticulous as she is, I don't believe at all that the kitchen is unclean. If she's tough on the young adults she employs (and I have no clue, really--but I also work with kids), so be it--unemployment is tougher, except for those clueless kids that get to go home to mommy telling her how awful that mean woman is who employs them, and daily puts up with their immature, inexperienced, but, knows-it-all attitude, as she tries to shape them in to a better asset to the business. She probably doesn't let them text and play on their I-phones during working hours, either.....So MEAN!!!

Jimmy johns had some rude employees when I went on the very first day. Not impressed
The harvest rest I heard cooks their food at home in crockpots and brings it in to sell. Which doesn't seem very Healthy to me
if they cook their food anywhere but the kitchen that was inspected by madison co. health dept. they are in violation....that is not allowed.

As far as mexican food goes don chenco's is good they have really good carne asadas/tacos, they have one kind of taco that is soft cooked pulled beef that is awesome. the only places around here that might be better are the ones on the edge of fairmont, you veer off to the left and take the exit you see when you hit gateway racetrack on your way out of town going toward st louis.... you'll see them right away, there's 2 right across the road from each other, but I forgot what they're called. you can get the authentic stuff like horchada and menudo you won't see at places for gringos. I wouldn't go in that area after dark though, LOL.

Have you ever seen the cooks at Uncle Linnys, I interviewed there and almost all the cooks are Mexicans that don't even speak English. They may not be illegal but come on now, up front looks like that place is all about family and small communities but the kitchen is way different, why hire people who can not even speak English. Rather happy to not get hired.

Considering there are very few actual sit down restaurants in GC, I can't even give you an opinion.

If I had to give you a few, I would say Jerry's Cafeteria, Applebee's and Jake's.

As far as the rest... Ravenelli's used to be good, until they took every good cut of meat off of the menu and then the wait staff told us that "folks around here didn't want those fancy cuts of meat"... Well, I buy better meat to grill myself than frozen ribeyes that they now use. Some folks do want those "fancy cuts of meat". Especially if they are going to charge 12.95 for a piece of crap frozen "steak".

Everything else is pretty much fast food. Fast food is fast food. All the same.

We just tried the Harvest on 27th and Madison. The BBQ ribs were really great and fell off the bone. Soaked in sauce with good flavor. Cheap too!

Just because the cooks are Mexican, does this mean they do not believe in family & small communities? Think before you speak. Sounds like you are a little upset about not getting hired. I frequent Linney's and the cooks in the back do speak english. And by the way the sure can cook. Quit hating.
