I want to know why all of the other communities around here are getting sports turf on their football and soccer fields and Granite isn't. Collinsville, one of the worst football programs in the area is getting turf. O'fallon and Edwardsville have turf. Even E.St. Louis got turf. Okay, they didn't pay for it but they got it.

Why can't you parents in Granite City kick in some tax money so we can play on the same nice fields as everyone else? Why do they get these nice fields? Do their parents care more about the safety? Do the old folks care more about what the community looks like?

It's ridiculous. When you parents were in school someone paid your way. Give back a little. Any of you ever get tackled on hard as concrete dirt? Maybe you wouldn't be so cheap if you had. Some of our good players are talking about transferring to other schools. I might even stay with an aunt just so I can play on the new turf at Collinsville my last two years.

Come on parents. Give it up!!!!!!!

Oh and for the people who will gripe think about this. If there are 10,000 homes in Granite City and each one paid a mere $200 more in taxes each year, they could put the turf in right now. Collinsville turf even with their new track only cost about 1.5 million. So, if we raised 2 million we could do the football field and even the soccer field. Think about it.

Students in this district have text books that are over a decade old, class sizes in various buildings are too high, and the state is behind on payments to all the districts. Yet you feel that raising taxes (of which you don't pay) and using that money for sports rather than education is best. What a great idea!

You'll catch more flies with sugar than vinegar.

You have to realize that a "mere $200" is a lot of money for a lot of people in Granite City. Why not organize a committee and start fundraising and soliciting donations from various businesses? It would be a good start and I think people would be much more receptive to donating rather than facing another tax increase. Best of luck!:)

Pull up your big boy pants and stop complaining about not having turf. You knew what football was all about, didn't you? You get hit hard, you land hard and you hit hard. And this talk about leaving and going to another school...what a big baby you are. If you plan on playing football in college, if you make it that far and the University you play for doesn't have turf are you going to say the same thing,'I'm going to play/live somewhere else where they have turf' You would be laughed at. Do some research and see how the band is getting a lot of their money . Hint they run the concession stands. GC football did at 1 time, maybe it could happen again. By the way a REAL WARRIOR would not leave the team for turf. By the way are your big boy pants pulled up?

First of all clown it's not just about me. Your band you speak so highly of complains to the team constantly about not being able to practice on the real field. Natural grass wears down, especially during the summer so the band has to practice on a different field. So you see big shot, the band would benefit. We do fundraise for football. It helps pay for equipment, video eqt. etc... Your band rasies funds to go on lavish trips to New York and Disney. Sometime why don't you suit up for a practice and let us take a few shots at you big boy. We'll see how tough you are then. You're just cheap. Two hundred dollars won't hurt anyone.

i for one pay enough damn taxes so sorry but i am not for adding another $200 to my already rediculously high taxes. if you have all that extra $$ go move to edwardsville or collinsville. Or better yet do some research and see if you can find some grant money or something. but sorry, there are enough people struggling right now in and out of forclosure the last thing you need to do is tack on an extra $200.

I believe you misunderstood my comment. I am not in the band or a band parent. I am a big football WARRIOR fan. I mentioned the band because they work the concession stand at the football games. Like I said, the football parents use to run the stand. The money from the concession stand is what the band gets to get the things they need and want, like trips as you mentioned, so like I said maybe that can change and the football parents can run the stands and that money go towards football and a new turf field. 200 bucks is a lot these days for families just to give away. You will relize this when you have to live on your own and pay bills and make ends meet, especially if you have a family. By the way the players that are whinning about the field, ask there parents to up 200 bucks and see what happens, by the way ask your parents for 200 bucks for new turf and see what their response will be. PS if the band is complaining about not being able to practice on the real field, ask them to up some cash for the cause. You never know what they will say until you ask. As far as me being cheap, you don't even know me, because cheap I am not!

The young poster here makes a good point. His delivery shows his lack of experience but his message is correct.

In this tough economic environment asking people to pay more is hard. However, do our children in Granite City not deserve just as much as those in Edwardsville and other communities? Are our residents not entitled to proper facilities that make our community look stronger? If indeed the young lad's numbers are correct a one time payment of $200 for each household is not an insurmountable amount to raise. Perhaps a few homes might need assistance by private businesses to make up their share. Or, perhaps they could offer physical help in building the new field.

Granite City, for some reason, always feels we're not good enough, we're not as good as the folks in E'ville. The difference my friends is they believe in their community and they put forth a positive energy to accomplish their goals. Years ago it was a farm community. Now it's a nice residential area.

I would love to see some of the negative energy on this site be put into a positive force. Why don't some of you go to the school board and offer your assistance to raise the funds to build the fields for this young lad and his fellow students? What a great thing it would be to see a group effort.

Think about it because.........It is written.

Well yes you will have a new football field.. but what about the soccer fields, the tennis courts, wrestling room ect....? We need alot of new facilities besides just the football field so how would you choose what to fix and upgrade first and you cant upgrade one and let all the others go.
